Convenor is Curator Frances Nugent. Roll call is "Show or Tell Something from the 1880's." Dessert will be served by Sadie McLeod and Anna MacTavish. Margaret Gemmell made this announcement. Arbor Day project Ripley's Arbor Day project was piloted by Huron Township Reeve John Gamble with help from Corey Kummer, Todd Thompson, Josh Bauman, Mandy Farrell, and Ian MacEachern - "Men of the Trees." 30 trees - Maples, Walnuts and Flowering crabs - were planted around the high school yard and the community centre. Memorial service held Rev. Glen Mapherson of Ripley United Church officiated at a memorial graveside service for Mrs. Marie Walden, widow of Wilbert S. Walden (1983) on Saturday April 30, 1988. Mrs. Walden passed away in Vancouver at the age of 89, after a lengthy illness. Nieces and nephews from London, Chatham, and Hamilton as well as those from the local area attended. Looking like summer • Ripley has taken on its summer look over this past weekend. The Lions Club have put their Gore Park sign up from its winter storage. Also the Ripley Fire Department had two weekend alarms. About 7:30 on Saturday evening the three vehicles went north and were out for an hour or so. Again on Monday forenoon about ten the alarm sounded. On Thursday evening, April 28, the Ripley Happy Hearts held their final dance of the season in the Legion hall with a large crowd attending from Clinton, Goderich, Wingham, Whitechurch, Lucknow, Kincar- dine and of course members from Ripley. Good music was supplied by the orchestra of Marg Harkness, Aurel Armstrong, Don Robertson, and Walter DeWolfe, assisted by Irene Emmerton and Ronnie Rack. A prize was given for the oldest couple on the dance floor which was won by Irene Neil and Fraser Farrell of Kincardine whose combined ages added up to 159. .A big "Thank You" t� all who attended. Hope you enjoyed yourselves, and members are looking forward to next season. NORMAN MACGREGOR Norman MacGregor (Sr) passed away in Kincardine and District Hospital on Sunday morning May lst, 1988 in his 91st year. He 18y Ab Wylds was born .in Huron township on the 5th con- cession east of the 15th and just west of the present I.C. Greenhouse farm there. Birth date was Sunday December 5, 1897. He is survived by four daughters, living in the Kincardine area as follows - Marian (Mrs. Donald McLeod) husband, a teacher at Kincardine high school, Donna (Mrs. Jack Howard), Gladys ("Benny") Mrs. Ray Murray, Shirley (Mrs. Robert Colquhon) RR 3 Tiverton, Also survived by two sons. They are John Morrison "Mort" MacGregor, Norman Sam MacGregor - well known. Norman is survived by 13 grandchildren and 14 great gandchildren. He is also surviv- ed by two sisters - Mrs. Gladys Hurston of Ripley and Mrs. 'Cassie Price of St. Clair Shores (Detroit. Rev. Arthur Pagette of Kincardine Pentecostal Church conducted the funeral service at 2 pm on Tuesday May 3, 1988, in the Ripley Cemetery. Sympathy goes to all members of the family. writ Lions auction this Saturday The Ripley and District Lions donation auction sale begins at 10:30 this coming Saturday at the Township Hall. Donations of curtains, electrical appliances, quilts, clothing, books and puzzles have been received to sell. The proceeds are being us- ed for Christmas lighting decorations and the Women's House of Bruce County. Softball registration over Softball Registration is now complete. Anyone still wishing to play can contact Dan Wilken at 395-3668. At this time there is only a Mite boys and Bantam boys softball team. There were not enough players registered for other teams. Next week's paper will have more details about softball and refund information. Happy Birthday to Matthew McGillivray who celebrated his 3rd Birthday on Tues- day. Present for the occasion were his fami- ly Ed and Sandra, Kelly and Kristy and his grandparents Wib and Eunice Emmerton and Katherine Collins. Wilda Thompson attended as a delegate the United church Women's Conference held in Hamilton on Wednesday and Thursday. Katherine Collins had her family home for the weekend, Dave and Margie Lochhead, Shauna, Rachel and Devon from Waterloo also Ed and Sandra McGillivray, Kelly, Kristy and Matthew, also Gordon and Ruthe Patterson. Francis and Irene Boyle visited on Friday night with Earl and Barbara Osborne in Guelph also with Bonnie Boyle and Helen Smith in London. Sam and Heather Finnie and Gabrielle had Kerry Boyle and Kevin Harrigan, John 'and Corrine Louther on the weekend. Also Joyce Farrell and girls had supper with Sam and Heather on Friday night. Earl and June Elliott had Lula Stanley Lucknow and Bev Tollefsen Toronto on the weekend. Don and Ann McCosh, Olive Needham and Currie Colwell were Sunday guests with Bruce, Shirley Colwell and family. Don and Ann McCosh visited with Mr. and Mrs. John Johnston and family at Jamestown. Janet and Fran Farrell entertained ladies to a quilting on Wednesday. PURPLE GROVE Bette MacLeod, Marion Gamble, Jean Scott had a walking tour around Huron Fr- inge Naturalist Lagoon on Sat. to view the birds. Bette is busy planting her garden. Dewayne and Marlene Greig visited on Sunday with Marlene's mother Wanda Garvley. Jack and Janet Farrell had their family on the weekend, Rob from Mount Forest, George and Janice Miller, Rachel and Col- een, Thorndale, Al and Kathy Martin and Jerared, Kitchener. Recent visitors with Don and Tiny Robert- son, Gladys McCallum and daughter Cindy, Kincardine, Grant and Barb MacDonald, Ripley. Jannelle, Joe and Brianne Elliott visited on the wekend with Meagan MacDonald,. Meagan attended Jannelle's birthday on Tuesday. Stefanie MacDonald celebrated her birth- day with Grandma Jean MacDonald in Ripley. Happy Birthday wishes Stefanie. Marion and Bill Martin, Kitchener, visited with Catherine Scott at Princess Court, Kin- cardine. Marion is Catherine's. sister. Don and Alma Gillies visited with Dave The last Card Party of the season was held at St. Helen's Hall on Monday, April 25. Winners included: Pink Cards, high - Cora Clayton; second high = Ruby Hanna. White Cards, high - Ross Errington; se- cond high - George Inglis; Most Shoots - Clarence Hanna; Lucky Cup - Cliff Menary; Lucky Birthday - Norma Raynard. and Valerie Gibson at their cottage on the 12th of Ashfield. Sandra Bickford and two children, Lucknow, Dave Henderson, Glen and Joyce Macpherson visited with the Gillies. Sympathy is extended to Marjorie Robb in the passing of her husband Cliff Robb. Heather Stanley, daughter of Ray and Helen' Stanley, Kinloss, recently graduated from the Diploma Nursing Pro- gram at Conestoga College in Kitchener. Heather has successfully received her registration and is presently employed at the Regional Health Centre in Owen Sound.
