Ladies learn to "recharge those WI. batteries"
Kairshea Women's Institute
The annual meeting of Kairshea W.I.
was held April 21 at the home of Marjorie
Wall, Wingham. The president, Irene
Haldenby opened the meeting with a poem
followed by the Opening Ode and the Mary
Stewart Collect.
The minutes of the March meeting and
the correspondence were read by the
secretary, Wanda Keith. The treasurer's
report was given by Marian MacKinnon.
Alice Ritchie has been nominated by the
W.I. for the O.M.A.F. Centennial Award.
The District Annual Meeting will be held
in Ripley May 17 at 9 a.m. Delegates ap-
pointed were June Gilchrist, Muriel
MacKenzie, Una Matthews and Mary
Lavis. The 4-H will set up a display at the
District Annual Meeting. •
A new electronic keyboard has been pur-
chased by the W.I. A motion was made
that we buy an adapter for it.
A committee was appointed to serve the
meal to the Lions Club on May 9.
Maimie Roulston gave her report of the
DungannonW.I.
The members of the Dungannon W.I. had
their annual meeting at the home of the
President Elmira Finnigan, Goderich, with
two visitors and a pot luck luncheon.
The meeting opened with Pres. Elmira
reading a poem and repeating The Mary
Stewart Collect. The roll call was answered
by payment of fees and the. Secretary gave
out the new handbooks. In the cor-
respondence we were reminded of the
Dungananon Fair Aug. 18 and 19. The W.I.
made a donation to the crafts section of the
fair. Thank you notes were received from
Peg Purdon, Tinie Logtenburg, Grace
McDermit and Olive Blake.
The guest for this meeting was Margaret
Taylor, District Pres. She gave a good in-
sight into what had been done in the last
year.
The report of last year's annual meeting
was given. The standing committees
reported on their year's work.
Elmira gave her report and thanked all
who had helped in the past year and hoped
we would all give our support to the new
Pres. Mary Robson.
Winnifred read the slate of Officers for the
year 1988-89. The slate was accepted. The
District Pres. installed the new slate of
Officers.
As Margaret Taylor had been to China
and Japan, she treated us to rice and raisins
and gave up chop sticks to eat with.
Elmira closed the meeting with another
poem.

Ripley Lions
Ripley and District Lions Club would like
to report that the numbering system for the
village is completed except for one business
and a few individual residences who wished
to put on their own numbers.
Anyone who hasn't got their numbers on
please do so as soon as possible, except for
Lion Bill Robinson's house that is growing
rapidly.

Workshop - Recharge your W.I. Batteries -
that she had attended in Walkerton.
Una Matthews brought up the subject of
the Kinloss Council booklet which was to
have been published after the stone with
plaque was erected at the Council Hall.
Several Institutes had worked on this
project.
Members had brought their sandwiches
and Marjorie Wall and Mary Lavis served
tempting trays with relishes, fruit, cookies
and tea and coffee.
Following lunch the minutes of the 1987
annual meeting were read. Reports were
given by the secretary, treasurer;
Elizabeth Dickie-P.R.O.; Muriel MacKen-
zie - curator, Freda Maclnnes - Sunshine
committee with Maimie Roulston, co-
ordinator, giving a concise report of all the
year's acitives. Allene Bradley read the
report of the nominating committee. June
Gilchrist conducted the installation of of-

Motions were passed to donate $25 to the
Sunshine Committe and also to send a
donation of $50 to the Blyth Festival
Building Fund.
.1 nrogram planning meeting will be held
in Kairshea Hall April 26 at 7 p.m. and the
cleaning bee on June 2 at 9 a n.
It was decided to have the regular May
meeting May 19 < , well as the bus trip on
May 26. The meeting will be at the Sepoy
Apt.'s at 13 p.m. Directors are Freda
Maclnnes and Betty Finlayson. Roll call -

The president, Irene Haldenby thanked
everyone for their co-operation during her
first year as president and also thanked
the hostess and all who had taken part in
the meeting.
