We enjoyed seeing manyparents and friends turn out at our open house held on Monday the 18th. Tanya Sutherland, our speech winner, entertained the visitors by rehearsing her speech. After this, the primary choir, led by Mrs. Inwood and Mrs. Campbell, sand a few springtime songs. Next on the agenda, our skipping club, directed by Mr. McKeon, did some daring stunts and heart stopping routines. Mr. Cayley had the Grade 7/8 in- strumental music class show the parents and friends the work that they have been doing this year. They entertained us all with some marches and many other en- joyable pieces. This week at L.C.P.S. the Bruce County Science Fair was held in the Community Complex in Kincardine. Fourteen of our Lucknow winners travelled to compete with other students in the county. They were Jesse Park, Dawn Bushell, Kerri Skillen, Melissa Brindley, Alesha Moffat, LCPS "dared to dream" Shane MacKinnon, Jeremy O'Neill, Chris Colwell, Angela Breckles, April Brindley, Amanda Peck, Marita MacDougall, Erin Johnston and Robert Hamilton. Congratulations to Jesse Park who won a silver medal in the Junior Demonstra- tion; Kerrie Skillen who won a gold in the Junior Working Model; Erin Johnston who won a silver in the Intermediate Chemical, and April Brindley for winning the Health Awareness Award. The Kindergartens would like to welcome two new kindergarten pupils. Kristi and Crystal. We are now studying bears and have acted out the three bears fairy tale! The Grade ones this week have starteda Fairy Tale unit by using a lot of their im- aginations. April birthdays are Jamie Aubie and Conor McDonagh, The Grade 1/2 class have finished their marvellous "Me" booklets, and have started a new unit on Farm Animals. As a part of the primary choir, Grades 1/2 and 2/3 sang on Friday at the Pinecrest Nurs- ing Home and Dryden Manor. This week the Grade 3/4 class finally completed their research projects on creatures on the oceans. A lot of hard work and dedication went into their projects. The exciting novel, "The Big Friendly Giant" is coming to an exciting conclusion with the good guys in control of the bad, evil people eating giants. Our section on "Germs" in health class, is now finished and we have learned a few things about viruses and bacteria, and how to make sure we can at least control them. Our grade 4/5 class would like to con- gratulate Kerrie Skillen who won first prize in her category at the county Science Fair. Mrs. Forrest was at the Outdoor Ed course for 3 days with Gr. 7's. We are almost finished our Australia Centres. The Grade 5 class finished their graphing unit in math and the magnetism centres in Environmental Studies. They are up to chapter 26 in their novel this week. They also did a survey to show that more people in the class like Coke better than Pepsi! Surprise Mom !!!! Tell everyone ... ``Why My Mom Is The Greatest" In 100 words or less write and tell us, here at the Sentinel, "Why you think your mom is the greatest." The winner will receive a Bouquet of Flowers to present to his/her mother for Mother's Day, RULES 1. Entries must be 100 words or less. 2. Entrants must be between the ages of 13 years & 17 years. 3. A entries must be received in the Sentinel office by 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, 1988 4. Entries must contain full name of Mother, Entrant's full name, address, phone number and age. 5. The winning Mother and Son/Daughter will have their picture and entry published in the May 11/88 Sentinel. Mail or drop off your entry into The Lucknow Sentinel 619 Campbell St., Box 409, Lucknow This week the Grade 6/7 class started fractions in math. They had a test on geometry and a geography test on Bruce County. The Grade 7/8 class this week were en- joying their trip to the Outdoor Education Centre where they spent a total of 3 days and 2 nights. Mr. McKeon had a visitor come to the school who is from Japan. He will be stay- ing at this house so he can learn the English language. He is already fluent in French and Japanese. This week the Grade 8's have continued their English study on Greek mythology. A few classmates had the privilege to go to the Kincardine Science Fair. Con- gratulations to April Brindley and Erin Johnstone. Grade 2/3 have participated in a busy Education Week. On Monday they welcom- ed their parents and friends to the Open House. On Friday they walked to Dryden Manor and Pinecrest to sing to the 'residents. We enjoyed Education week and hope you did too. Tent Pitchers The third meeting of the Trinty Tent Pit- chers was held at the home of Suzanne An- drews. The 4-H pledge opened the meeting befroe the home activities were taken up. Swiming safety was the topic for the meeting. The group first discussed some small injuries such as scrapes and how to avoid them. The leaders told about poison ivy and what it looks like. Out in the bush, the group prepared hot dogs wrapped in bacon and banana boats before adjourning the meeting. WH I .i E C t L l..l P C .i 1 By Jean Ross The Chalmers W.M.S. met on Thursday, April 21 at 2 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Nor- ma Rintoul. The leaders Mrs. Angus Falconer and Mrs. Wes Tiffin lead the wor- ship service. Mrs. Falconer gave the call to worship before she read the scripture from Psalm 104 and gave the meditation on spring. Mrs. Archie Purdon read .a poem "Our Thanks to Thee". Mrs. Wes. Tiffin gave the topic Learning from Experience. Mrs. Walter Elliott took over and the minutes were read by assis- tant Secretary Mrs. Norma Rintoul. Roll - call was answered by 7 members with a verse containing the word "Rain". The ladies accepted an invitation to South Kinloss 100th W.M.S. anniversary on May 4 and the Maitland Presbyterial is be- ing held in Molseworth. May 9. Mrs. Wes Tiffin offered her home for the May meeting. Offering was received and prayer by Mrs. Wm. Purdon was heard. Mrs. Elliott closed the meeting with prayer. Mrs. Rintoul served a delicious lunch and courtesies were given by Mrs. A. Purdon. Mrs. Annetto Jantzi of Milverton is a pa- tient in the Stratford Hospital. She is a sister-in-law of Mrs. Rena Fisher of Wingham. Mrs. Nettie Ross of Wingham accom- panied John McKinnon and Mildred Mc- Clenaghen on Sunday to see Mrs. Addie Foein 1 Addie Ross) in the Mississauga Hospital. She is a sister-in-law of Nettie Ross, and on her return home called at Erin Lodge in Erin Mills to see Mrs. Daisy Connell who resided in Wingham for many years. On Wednesday morning the large mov- ing van came to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carmen Whytock to load the furniture of Mr. and Jack Whytock. Mr. and Mrs. Whytock left Thursday morning to travel to Charleton North Caroline U.S.A. The Whytocks address is Backcreek Presbyterian Church, North Carolina U.S.A. The community wishes them the very best. Miss Ann Campbell of Wingham visited with the Whytocks before Jack and Nancy left for their new home. Mr. and Mrs. Angus Falconer, Mrs. Wes Tiffin and Mrs. Isobel Tiffin from Lucknow, attended the wedding of Stephen Belrose and Lyn Falconer in Sarnia on Saturday.
