Lucknow Horticultural
Society'springs"to life
About 120 people gathered at the
Lucknow Hall on Tuesday evening April
19th at 8 p.m. when the Lucknow and
District Horticulture Society entertained
visitors from Kincardine, Ripley and
Teeswater Societies.
Our President Margaret Burkhart
welcomed everyone, and we opened with
"0 Canada", accompanied by Edith
Webster.
Margaret Burkhart introduced our guest
speaker, Mr. Gerry Brickman, from
Brickman's Country Flowers of Wartburg.
He grows many gladioli, and this year.he
plans to plant about 30,000 glads. He
demonstrated how roses should be pruned
and cared for during the summer and
made ready for winter. He had several
perennials with him and gave us many
suggestions when and where they 'should
be planted, pruned and cared for. He
grows about 600 perennials in his gardens.
He gave many suggestions for fertilizing
and treating for various bugs etc.
Mrs. Betty O'Donnell thanked the
speaker. The committee - Betty O'Donnell,
Joyce Swan, Anne Anderson, Noma Camp-
bell, Doris Culbert and Mary Lavis (Jim),
served refreshments. The visitors were
able to ask Mr. Brickman questions while
the Lucknow Society held a separate brief
business meeting.
The minutes of the February meeting
were read and approved. Several thank
you notes were received from the churches
who had received Easter lilies.
Discussion regarding the Convention in
Ottawa was held over until a later date, as
we plan to have a Board Meeting soon.
Joan Robinson made the motion that we
adjourn.

head in the Legion Hall. We sang 0 Canada
and our opening song and the minutes were
adopted as read. It was moved by Rita Ir-
win, seconded by Marion Gamble that the
treasurer's report be adopted as read by
Freda Collins. The correspondence was
dealt with and it was moved by Gladys Ar-
nold we send a delegate to the conference in
Toronto, but as no one seconded it, the mo-
tion was dropped.
Florence welcomed everyone and Marion
and Bill Collins led in a sing song. Alma
Gillies reported for the visiting committee
and Chester Emmerton advertised our last

vote on euchre, and there will be one more
party on April 25. Elizabeth Fair and Marie
Colling were in charge of the program which
began with both giving an Easter reading.
With Mary Gibson at the piano Bertha Scott
and Marion Lowry delighted us with several
duets which were enjoyed by all. Elizabeth
had some good jokes, then she introduced
Todd Farrell who spent a year in Sweden.
Through slides he took us on a delightful trip
to several cities and explained each slide in
an interesting manner, also answered
several questions. Elizabeth thanked him
and presented him with a gift.
Alma Gillies gave the courtesies and the
closing exercices and grace brought us to
