Pine River U.C.W.
On the evening of April 19th the Pine
River United Church U.C.W. met in the
basement of the church.
The meeting opened with Linda Camp-
bell in the president's chair in place of the
president Betty Jones who had another
engagement for the evening.
Linda read a lovely poem. The hymn
"Saviour Dear to Thy Dear Name" was
sung by the 30 people that were present.
The minutes of the March meeting were
read by Ruth Farrell and the roll call was
answered by giving a verse from the Bible
with the word "grow" in it.
The meeting was then turned over to the
convenors Phyllis Elliott and Kae
Webster.
Kae Webster read a poem "April" and
Phyllis read the Bible scripture then the
guest speaker, Claudia Elliott Morris of
Perry Sound, showed quite a number of
slides and told us of so many things that
took place during her four year stay in
Lesotha in Souther Africa from 1980 to
1984. -
They were there in conjunction with the
United Church to teach the people some
things in agriculture and Claudia showed
the women many things, a couple of which
was cooking which was difficult, as there
were many ingredients that were not ob-
tainable and they only had a limited supply
of others.
The other was to show the ladies to make
their own clothes. They were very proud of
their finished . products that they wore
them all the time.
During this four year period this small
country was in the drought period so it was
quite a challenge and to show them the
rewards of irrigation.
Rev. George Ball led in prayer and
grace was said.
A bountiful lunch was served by the
lunch committee and a social hour was had
by 5114/4e ladies.
