Local cattleman makes Toronto Exchange
Ripley drover Allan Colling had two cattle
sales named on the Toronto Stock Market
this past week.
The stock was from the farms of Elmer
Smeltzer, RR 1 Ripley and from the Percy
Bros. in the Holyrood area.
Foot care clinic
VON Mrs. Marg McIntyre is the nurse
carrying out the foot care clinic for this
area. She lives at Point Clarke but comes to
Huron Villa in Ripley on a set morning once
a month. Mrs. Ethel White who resides at
the Villa can be called at 395-5394 for an
appointment.
Both ladies were pleased with the number
out to the April clinic. We expect that one of
the ladies will call me with the date of the
May clinic for the paper.
Firefighters meet
On Tuesday evening April 19 last week, at
7:30 p.m. the Ripley Fire Department held
its regular meeting at the station. Attending
were fire chief Rod MacDonald, captain Bob
Johnston, firemen Brian Pollock, Bill
Robinson, Dan MacDonald, Chris Anger, Ed
McGillivray, Blain Carruthers, Dan Fry,
and secretary ton Peterbaugh - ten
attending.
Once the regular meeting was over, Bob
Johnston and three others parked the fire
engine by the south side of Gore Park
alongside the underground water storage
cistern there. The purpose was to clean out
the cistern and put new water in it and likely
give new firemen practise on the pumper.
The night before - which would be Monday
April 18 - the new moon out m the western
sky had a i__ost unusual look to it.
A couple of nights later it was normal
again. So I guess it must have been caused
by the earth's atmosphere. Folks reported
the look on the radio the next day on the
Garry Chomyn talk show on C.K.N.X.
Will hold used book sale, May 21

with the craft show on May 21 at the
Complex.

donate to the auxiliary, would they contact

quette 395-5175 for pick up.

Bible Society will be conducting their yearly
canvass in May. This has been planned to
coincide with the fact that the first Sunday
in May is designated as Bible Society Sun-
day in our churches. We hope you will be
generous when the canvassers call.
New House built
A couple of weeks ago Ripley carpenter
and builder Ray Fuller started a new Muse
for Bill and Annetta Robinson and family.
The location is in the middle of the village - a
few yards east of the new post office and
library. It is at the juncture of four streets
there - Jessie Street, Melville Lane, Railway
Street and Ripley Street. Ray is a good
builder. A year ago he put up the mainstreet
home of Ron and Lynn Nicholson.
Mrs. Pat Brennan passes on
On Tuesday morning April 19 Mrs. Jan
(John) Fludder stopped on her way upstreet
to say that she had received word that Mrs.
Pat Brennan had passed away. Carl and his
wife Pat operated the Ripley Superior
Market up to a few years ago. They lived in
the second house from the north end of
William Street. Then they disposed of their
property and moved to Collingwood where
Pat passed away last week.
Family moves to Kincardine
Talking to Mrs. Ethel White last week she
reported this news item on the family. Doug
and Helen Moore and younger members of
their family moved to Kincardine. Their two
older boys still live in their house on Ripley
Street and travel back and forth to
Wingham and Kincardine where they work.
Toronto bids for Olympic games
Did you read the front pages of Sunday's
Toronto Star? There it tells about Toronto
and Athens both trying to win this year's
Summer Olympics. There it mentions
Toronto Ontario Olympic council chairman
Paul Henderson. Interviewed for the Star
last Saturday, Paul said "All things being
equal between Toronto and Athens, the emo-
tion will carry the day." Paul, a native of
the Second concession of Huron township
and next of Lucknow, is the player who
scored the goal on a pass from Phil Esposito
in 1974 in Moscow to beat the Russians.
Two Auction Sales
Last Saturday the weather being cold and
damp did not favour working outside on the
land. However, it was ideal for gathering at
sales.
There were two in this area. One at the
Stan Drzazga farm just up the 4th conces-
sion east of Reids Corners. It was a good
farm machinery sale, all well cared for and
excellent condition.
Auctioneers were Grant McDonald of
Ripley and Wallace Ballagh of Teeswater.
Stan is retired on the farm with the land
itself rented now. It is the former Wes Robb
farm.
The second sale in this area last Saturday
was at the Holyrood store - east of Ripley.
The barn near the store was used to protect
the articles and folks attending. Auctioneers
were Allan R. Miller of the Holyrood store
and William Haldenby of the Holyrood to
Lucknow road. It could be the first of the
Holyrood Sales Barn sales. It would seem to
this writer to be in a good location for a
series of summer sales for items trucked in
and resold to summer residents.
Leroy Walden passes on
Sympathy goes to Mrs. Mary Walden and
family on the passing of Leroy Walden.
