Ralph Dietrich Wins
The Canadian Junior Chamber of Com-
merce and the Calgary Stampede annually
sponsor a Canadian Outstanding Young
Farmer Award. The country is divided in-
to eight regions and Ralph Dietrich of RR
3, Mildmay is the regional winner for this
region. The Canadian Competition will be
held in Calgary this fall where three win-
ners will be selected from the eight
regional winners.
Ralph and Jayne operate a dairy farm
south of Mildmay.
Chemical Weed Control
The stage of growth of the target weeds
is very important to obtaining good weed
control. The most common fault is waiting
too long and expecting the chemical to kill
weeds at a stage the chemical was not
designed to work at.
Chemicals are designed to be absorbed
by specific parts of a plant. For example
chemicals designed to kill germinating
seeds will not kill growing plants. In
general the earlier you spray, the better.
