Olympics
by Tara Thacker
As you all know the 1988 Winter Olym-
pics were here in Canada recently. We
took the Olympics as our houseleagues
Theme this year. We are divided into
twelve different countries. Russia, China,
Japan, Brazil, Argentina, Italy, South
Africa, Egypt, Venezuala, France, Ger-
many and Kenya are our teams. Each day
we all try to get as many points for our
teams as we can. We can earn points by do-
ing good work, answering the morning
nutrition questions, helping each other and
proper behavior. The seniors can par-
ticipate in sports at noonhours to earn
points also. Right now there's a close race
for the winning team and the pizza party at
the end of the year.
Our teams have taken part in cross-
country, soccer, volley -ball, arm wrestl-
ing, snow sculptures and our own mini
Winter Olympics. Each team has a
teacher for a leader and we would like to
thank them for encouraging school spirit.
It's a tight race so be watching for a win •

The Portable
by Angela Cranston
At the start of the school year a new ad-
dition had been added to the school - a por-
table class room. Our new portable also
came along with a very nice new teacher,
Mrs. Mary Forrest. The students in the
portable are just a few from these grades,
grades 4 and 5. We are all sure that the
students in the portable have all put a gret
deal of effort in getting used to the por-
table, good work! !
Tangle Foot
Senior students from Teeswater, Ripley,
Brookside and Lucknow enjoyed an in-
teresting musical/history presentation by
three minstrels from Toronto on March 11.
The story of the opening of Western
Canada, through fur trading and gold
fever, was cleverly told through mime,
song, slides and acting. The musicians
were superb and we hope to be able° to see
more live theatre in the months to come.
Cross Country
by Heather Askes
This past year a bus load of athletic kids
travelled to Ainsdale golf course on Oc-
tober 14. We competed against Ripley,
Huron Heights, Elgin Market and W.E.
Thompson. We made our school proud.
Later in October we drove at Paisley and
this time it was all of Bruce County. Our
coach was Mr. Flanagan, we thank him.
We had a fun season but next year we will
have more fun and people.
Band
This year in band, we have played in
many things such as in parades, remem-
brance service, and carolfest. This year on
the band trip we are going to play at many
schools. They are: Dundas Central and
Central Park. We will be playing there on
May 17. On May 18 we will be playing in
Mohawk Gardens in Burlington. We also
are playing in Pineland, which is in Burl-
ington. On May 19 we will be playing at
Eastview in Oakville. In the afternoon we
will be playing in Kilbride in Burlington.
On May 20 we will be playing at Rolling
Meadows in Burlington. On the way home
we will be playing at Flamborough Centre
for Seniors. We hope to be in more places
this year and having great times together.
Maybe we can put a little zing in your life.
If you ask me about band, I think it's
GREAT! ! If you get a chance to be in the
band, go for it! By Tracey Visser.
Skipping Club
by Katrina Abbott
Twice a week you can hear a tap -tap -tap
on the gymnasium• floor. Members of the
Skipping Club meet on Tuesdays at noon
and Thursdays after school. Under the
direction of Mr. McKeon and Mrs.
Armstrong -Gibson people are learning
Double Dutch, Bubble, and other skipping
routines. One exciting thing the Lucknow
Skippers have done this year is Jump Rope
for Heart. Grades 4 to 8 raised 1700 dollars
for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. They
are now practising for Open House and
hope to see you there!!

We love spring.

My Sister
Margo • Abbott
Grade 1
I have a big sister. She is Katrina. She
always bosses me, but I don't care at all. I
like my sister when I play with her, and fly
kites, and she is nice to me, too.
Dragons
Erin Eadie
• Once there were eight dragons. They all
lived in the forest. The eight dragons loved
to play and they loved to eat. They were 9
years old. They visit their mom everyday.
Four of them were sick. They couldn't
come and play. The other dragons were
sad so the others went back home.

My Birthday
by Daniela Fischer
My birthday was on Friday
And I had caught a cold;
I got about five .presents
And I was ten years old.
The kitchen was all decorated
With every colour of ballons,
There were signs of Happy Birthday
And I hoped it would come again soon.
