The worst radiation
ARE YOU LIVING WITH
A SILENT KILLER?
Radon is an invisible, odourless,
tasteless gas and it is our worst radiation
hazard. It is the second leading cause of
lung cancer next to smoking.
Research has shown that this radioac-
tive gas, which occurs naturally in the soil,
can seep into buildings and accumulate
posing a health hazard to occupants. An
estimated eight million homes in North
America contain high levels.
The Canadian Radon Detection Agency
(CRNA) has test kits available that will
determine radon levels in individual
homes.
A recent Consumers Union report
"strongly urges that all homes be screened
for radon" as seepage of the gas is a
relatively easy problem to solve once
detected.
The CRDA is concerned over public
apathy about this health hazard and hopes
that homeowners will respond once they
become aware of the seriousness of the
radon problem. The CRDA is therefore
making available to the public free infor-
mation concerning radon gas in the home.
This information can be obtained by sen-
ding your name and address along with a
37 cent return postage stamp to: CRDA,
