Residents of Ripley spot the town's first limo
Last Wednesday, April 6, Francis and
Margaret Gemmell drove up Interstate 75 to
return to their home on Tain Street in
Ripley.
Don and Anna MacTavish also own a
home in the same town - Tamarac.
Margaret reports that Don and Anna hope to
return this week.
Held roast beef dinner
The Ripley Agricultural Society held their
roast beef dinner in the Huron Township
Hall on Thursday evening, April 7 last week.
Following the supper they had 10 tables of
euchre with Marion Lowry high lady, Bob
Thompson high gent, Edna Stanley low
lady, and Gail van der Hoek as low man,
most lone hands were Bob Harris and
Donalda Pollard. President of the lady
directors Mrs. Margery (Ken) MacDonald
says thanks for their help in putting on, a
good meal.

• Easter meeting at the United on April 5th.
the leader for Unit 4, Cathy Farrell welcom-
ed everyone and opened the meeting with an
Easter reading. The worship was given by
her on the theme "Jesus knew He was going
to die", with scripture readings given by
Joan Woods, Marie MacDonald, Lois
Hackett and Elaine Pollock. Hymns' -
"Jesus Christ is Risen Today" and "The
Day of Resurrection" were sung. The offer-
ing was received by Viola Bridge and Joan
Fry and dedicated by Cathy Farrell.
The guest speaker, Jan Johnstone, who is.
the co-ordinator of the Palliative Care was
introduced by Cathy Farrell. She spoke of
the support and care of the terminally ill
and dying patient. The supportive roll of the
patient's family and friends, and the
bereavement follow up for family. The guest
speaker was thanked and presented with a
gift by Elaine Pollock.
The business portion of the meeting was
conducted . by . President Shirley Harris
followed by forty-one members answering
the roll call. The meeting was closed by
repeating the U.C.W. Benedication led by,
Shirley Harris. A delicious lunch was served
by Unit 4.
Ripley W.I. annual meeting
Ripley Women's Institute held a potluck
Luncheon in the Legion Hall to begin their
annual meeting.
President Minnie Lock presided with An-
nie Culbert assisting. Mary Brooks reported
on the conference, "Recharge Your Bat-
teries" which was for officers in Walkerton.
District Director Zilla Hedley reported
the district directors meeting held in March.
The district annual meeting will be hed in
the Ripley St. Andrews United church on
May 17th. The roll call was payment of fees.
It was decided to join the hospital auxiliary,
representatives being Minnie Lock and Peg
Chappelle. A tea for the hospital will be held
in June. The area convention will be held in
Hepworth on Oct. 28th. The election of of-
ficers was conducted by past president Zilla
Hedley. Reports were presented for the past
year by co-ordinator Annie Scott. A donation
was given to the Agricultural Society.
The May meeting will be held at the Grace
Murray's home rather than Mrs. Nugent's
home. The hostesses for the day were Annie
Scott, Noreen McDonald and Donalda
McLean. Thanks to Margaret Gemmell for
her help m this report.

Wednesday afternoon and on into the next
morning was on the topic of that limousine
parked in front of the 'telephone office on
main street. Did you see it? It was a long
one, Thanks to Martin Phelan for the start
on this item. Also to the staff at the Ripley
Central.
Northern Telecom in Toronto sent the
limousine here to pick up Glenn, Grubb, Bob
Johnston, J.S. Robb, Jack Campbell and
Jim MacDonald to take them to Toronto on
Tuesday. From there they were to be flown
to Raleigh, North Carolina. At first they
were to fly from Goderich airport but there
ws the concern about fog closure there. So
we got to see our first limousine here in
Ripley,

Lion President Grant McDonald reports
that the numbering of homes and businesses
in the village is pretty well completed.
Anyone who hasn't received their number
please notify Lion Pres. Grant McDonald.

The 77th Annual Meeting of Family and
Children'sServices of Huron County (The
Children's Aid Society of Huron County) will be
held on Wednesday, AprI( 20, 1968 at 7:30
p.m. at Goderich Lawn Bowling Club, 110 Pic -
ton Street West, Goderich,,Ontario.
A business meeting will be held to review the
Agency's operations for 1987. and for the elec-
tion of officers. Also. amendments to the
Agency's By -Laws will be presented for ap-

Team will present information on the in-
itiatives taken to prevent and treat child
abuse in Huron County.
