meeting held in Lucknow
The Bruce South District Director's.
meeting was held at the home of Mrs.
Cit rence Ritchie in Lucknow on Tuesday,
March 22.
President Largaret McInnes welcomed
everyone and read a poem followed by the
Mary Stewart Collect.
Secretary Norma Humphrey called the
roll and the minutes of the 1987 meeting
were read and approved by those in
attendance. ,
Pennies for Friendship started back in
1930 and each member gave generously.
Mrs. Emily Bushell, the Bruce County
Tartan Representative, gave a short
report and presented some new items. She
closed with a poem, entitled "Melody of
Spring".

Club news
A Huron County 4-H team consisting of
Debbie Rintoul of Lucknow; Darlene
Black, Belgrave; Laura Hallahan, Blyth;
and Sandra Shelley of Gorrie placed se-
cond out of seventeen teams competing at
the Ridgetown Invitational Showmanship
Competition. A team from Brant County
won first place honours.
Debbie Rintoul also brought home the
Champion Beef Showmanship award.
The competition consists of a general
quiz after which' each member shows an
animal in their choice of four commodity
groups - dairy, beef, swine or sheep. The
Invitational Competition took place at the
Ridgetwon College of Agricultural.
Technology on Saturday, March 26.
Congratulations to our local team for
their winning efforts.
The Dungannon II 4-H Club held their
most recent meeting on March 28 at the
home of Carol and Allister Nivins'. The
meeting opened with the 4-H pledge and
the minutes of the last meeting.
The roll call was "Why is it important to
know how to build a shelter in the out-
doors?" and everyone present offered an
answer.
Members shared the readings and
helped answer the questions. Some of the
topics included campsite selection, sleep-
ing area, cooking, food storage, weather,
clouds and air pressure.
Everyone in the club had to predict the
weather for the following day judging on
air pressure, clouds, wind and
temperature.
Discussion also included safety in the
outdoors.
The next meeting of the group will be
held April 11 at Fred Armstrong's farm.
The first meeting of the St. Helen's Hap-
py Hikers was held March 29 at the home
of Arlene Turner. There were five
members present.
Following the roll call, a game and the
business portion of the meeting, the group
moved outdoors to construct a criss-cross
fire and to try their hands at cooking. •
While everyone was enjoying hot
chocolate, the election of officers was
held: President, Bev Aitchison; Vice
President, Brent Gammie; Treasurer,
Derek Turner; Press Reporter, Trisha
MacDonald. Club leaders are Arlene
Turner, Luba Strutton and Tanya Turner.
The second meeting of the Happy Hikers
was held April 2 at the'St. Helen's Hall.
The Vice President opened the meeting
with the 4-H pledge.
Tanya Turner read the minutes of the
first meeting and then the home activities
were discussed. Six members answered
the roll call.
While helping themselves to hot
chocolate, members decided to try a camp
out on Friday, May 13. The next meeting
will also be held at the St. Helen's Hall.

to see more students and 4-H members ap-
ply for the scholarship.
There is a workshop in Walkerton on
Tuesday, March 29 for the secretary,
treasurer and'public relations officers.
The District annual meeting is to be held
in the Ripley United Church on May 17.
The Bruce County Rally is to be held in
Underwood on October 20 and the Grey
Bruce Convention in Hepworth on October
28.

Back from the south
Elizabeth and Ira Dickie are now home
after spending the past few months in
Florida.
Heather MacDougall was home for
Easter from Windsor where she is atten-
ding University.
1atrina Howald spent Easter at home
with her mom, dad and Heather. She is at-
tending the University of Waterloo. Other
relatives for Easter dinner with Harold
and Kathy were Ida Howald and Laurna
and Calude Goy. and family and
grandchildren.
Rev. Glen Noble of Swift Current and
Rev. John Ferrier of Wayburn Saskat-
chewan, visited with friends in Lucknow
and South Kinloss recently when they were
attending a seminar in Toronto.
