The Lucknow PeeWee A team defeated Wasaga Beach in three straight games last week to capture the All Ontario Hockey Championship. The final game was played here Saturday afternoon with over 400 fans in attendance. Game one in the best -of -five series was played in Wasaga and was probably the most exciting game of the series with Lucknow winning by a single goal, 5 - 4. Wasaga started the scoring with two quick goals forcing Lucknow to play catch- up hockey. Chris Stevenson finally found the mark with a beautiful unassisted goal at 2:13 of the first period. The tying goal came from Vince Sticklend who was aided by Terry Stanley and Darryl Gibson. The go ahead goal was scored off the face-off by Justin Murray mid -way through the second period. Wasaga came back to tie the game before Chris Stevenson struck again with a minute left in the middle period. Brad Rhody added the assist. The lead didn't last long though as Wasaga came flying out of their own ended and netted the tying goal with a mere 20 seconds left in the period. The third period saw ened to end action as neither team wanted to make a mistake. Both goalies stood their ground well until Chris Stevenson blew the winn- ing goal past the Wasaga netminder with just four minutes left in the game. Brad Rhody and. Justin Murray took the helpers on the winning goal. Game Two The series returned to Lucknow on Thursday evening with the hometown team fired up thanks to the near capacity crowd. The first period saw a total of nine goals bulge the mesh with five of them belonging to Lucknow. Wasaga got off to the quick start again just 9 seconds into the opening period, but Stevenson replied for Lucknow 25 second later with help from Darryl Gibson. Matt Sproul found the mark after taking a Gibson rebound and Justin Murray made it 4 - 2 seconds later with assists to Rob Crich and Chris Stevenson. Wasaga was down but not out as they came back with another before the series hero, Stevenson made it five fir Lucknow. The second period saw only a goal apiece from the two teams. Chris Humphrey did the damage for Lucknow as he stepped outside the face-off circle and ripped a shot into the high corner. Rhody drew the assist. It was all Lucknow come the third period of play as Matt Sproul started things off with a slap shot that nearly ripped the mesh out of the net. Accepting the All Ontario Cup following Satur- day's big win over Wasaga Beach were Rob Crich, Chris Stevenson and Terry Stanley. The ninth and final goal of the game for Lucknow came from Justin himself Ails time with the assist go- ing to Rhody, Adam Skillen played a super game bet- ween the pipes for Lucknow as both teams had excellent chances to score and his talent carried through to game three on Saturday. Game Three With fans "hanging from the rafters" for game three, the hometown team didn't let them down as they skated to an 8 - 4 win on Saturday. Lucknow took a commanding 3 - 0 lead before Wasaga fought back to tie it 4 all by the end of the second. Come the third period, with victory on their doorstep, Lucknow pulled all the stops and netted four unanswered goals to win the game handily. While Lucknow spent 46 minutes in the penalty box during the game, they still proved they were number one. Goals were scored by Terry Stanley, Justin Murray, Brad Rhody, Matt Sproul, Chris Hum- phrey and Chris Stevenson with assists go- ing to every other member of this winning team. As was to be expected, Adam' Skillen once again stopped them cold in net.
