Kindergarten I
Kindergarten I has been doing some
Easter activities. We have started to do
our own journals too. This week we began
to do some work in preparation for the spr-
ing concert.
Today we are going to make some
Easter bunnies.
Grade 1
Miss Mather's Grade Ones had an en-
joyable trip to Robinson's Maple Sugar
Bush on Thursday, March 24. We saw the
complete maple syrup process and sampl-
ed many yummy maple treats.
On Thursday Miss Jewitt's grade 1 and
their friends from Miss- Mather's grade 1
enjoyed a simply delicious trip to Robin-
son's Sugar Bush near Auburn. While they
were there, they toured the bush and saw
the trees that were tapped and learned
about the making of maple syrup. They
especially enjoyed tasting the samples of
syrup, toffee, and maple sugar candy.
They would like to say a big Thank -you to
Mr. and Mrs. Robinson and Catherine for
the great tour.
The Dinosaur Den
The Dinosaur Den has turned into the
Writer's Workshop this month. Our
Awesome Authors have been writing their
opinions about television (Could you turn it
off for a year for $500?) and freedom (a
caged rabbit and a free one), and planning
our "Ideal Holiday". We also spent a day
in Florida this week. We all "dressed
Florida" and enjoyed the warm sun and
the sand. Mrs. Smyth brought each of us a
fossil shark's tooth to go with the day.
Thanks, Mrs. Smyth! Martin Bollinger
was our "Special Me" this week, and next
is Drew Black.
Grade 3
Mrs. Ottewell's grade 3 class have been
doing research on the provinces of
Canada. We are also working on Easter ac-
tivities. Mrs. Graham was in to help us
with weaving. Did we ever have fun. We
are making belts, scarves and wall
hangings.
Grade 4
Grade 4, Room 9, has been studying the
Inuit. Each research group gave an oral
presentation to the class. We learned how
to use the overhead and filmstrip
projectors.
We enjoyed listening to Liane Creighton
about her experience of carrying the torch.
Liane used to go to Brookside, and is now
at F.E. Madill Secondary School.
Grade 5
Mrs. Worsell's grade five class started a
famous people unit in Language Arts.
They have read about Charles Blondin and
BROOKSIDE
Lucy Maud Montgomery so far. On Mon-
day they had hotdogs for lunch.
Grade 6
Mrs. Tebbutt's Grade 6 class had a visit.
from Mrs. Graham again this week. She
taught us how to draw facial features ac-
curately. Our school now has a new Auntie.
She is 75 -years -old and we call her Aunt
Gertie. She is made out of nylon and stuff-
ing. She is related to Mrs. Blake and she
sits in a rocking chair in our library.
Grade 7C
This week our class is working in
Science Groups. We're staring different
types of experiments with Mr. Liddle. Mrs.
Allen has planned two field trips for tis. On
April 26 we will be visiting the Bruce
Nuclear Power Development Plant, and on
May 3 we are going to the Milton ,
Agricultural Museum for our next history
assignment. Over the March Break we
each read a novel. We hada choice of four
novels! In Health class we have just
finished studying what smoking does to
your health and started a new subject,
"Family Life" with Miss Clynick.
Grade 7
This week we began our individual novel
study. Students may choose a book from
the Library. Reading and Language Ac-
tivities are completed on a daily basis.
Committees have been made for various
Fun Fair activities. This was held on
Thursday, March 31 in the afternoon. Each
class had an opportunity to visit the Fun
Fair and try out the activities.
