Ripley folks were glad to learn last Friday
that Norm Barnard had underwent suc-
cessful surgery in the Grey Bruce Regional
Health Centre Foundation in Owen Sound
(Owen Sound Hospital) . We now wish Nor-
man continued recovery.
Last Friday evening George McLean
entered Kincardine and District Hospital for
treatment of pneumonia.
Putting numbers on homes
Ripley and District Lions Club President
Grant McDonald reports that the members
will be starting to place the numbers on the
homes in the village of Ripley on the holi-
day, April 4th, 1988.
Won trip to Las Vegas
Also Grant reported a good turnout to the
annual Las Vegas night Sat. Mar. 26th.
Thank you for attending. Congratulations to
Howard Harrison on being the lucky winner
of the trip for two to Las Vegas for three
nights accommodations through Paradise
Travel.
A special "thank you" to Committee
Chairman Lion Jim MacTavish and all,
members and non members who assisted in
helping to make the evening a success.
Phoned Ripley number
Every noon hour, 12:15, C.K.N.X.
Wingham radio station has the Win -a -
Dinner feature familiar to most people.
Well - believe it or not - the C.K.N.X. noon
operator rang the number 395-2275. I had
listened for years back and never before had
such a thing happened. The 395 is the Ripley
exchange. In the phone book it is Gordon
Tom, RR4, Kincardine 395-2275, a Ripley
call as it should lie. Tom answers with the
usual greeting "Hello", the operator ex-
plains and Tom in surprise says "Oh God",
but still does not "win the prize". Living at
RR 4, which is the 6th concession in Huron
township maybe somebody thought in the.
phone book it should be Kincardine.
Honored for dairy operation
Peter and Shirley Walden who operate
By Ab Wylds
their dairy farm just west of Reids Corners
received a fifth placing on their dairy opera-
tion in Bruce County.
Beef supper next week
Just a reminder that the Ripley
Agricultural Society beef supper is next
week Thursday April 7 in the Huron
township hall. Tickets at the door.
Jr. Farmers
The West Huron Junior Farmers held
their annual card party last week at the
Brookside School with a total of 13 tables
participating.
The group brought in $81.69 which will
now be donated to the Juvenile Diabetics
Foundation.
The high man of the evening was Jerry
Logtenburg while the low man honours
were taken by Bill McWhinney.
The high lady was Belle Mole with
Melissa Logtenburg taking the low lady
score.
An enjoyable evening was experienced
by all while helping a worthy cause.
On March 16, the Junior Farmers held
their annual movie afternoon for future
members at the Lucknow Town Hall from
1:30 until 3:30.
All the children who attended had a
great time enjoying the films and the
refreshments provided by the group.
About 20. youngsters took advantage of the
event.
A big thanks goes out to Fran and
Clatidia for their help' in staging the
movies.

Mia Dalton of the parish, who is current-

sent greetings to the community. She
described her heartbreaking work with
children dying of malnutrition whose
swollen bodies begin to burst and they ex-
perience excrutiating pain before they
finally die.
She also states they are in need of
material for making diapers and good
lightweight infant and toddler clothing.
More than anything else she would like to
find families willing to open their hearts
and homes for adoption of even a few of the
countless, homeless children. Ayone in-
terested in helping in any way is asked to
please contact either Father Ed Dentinger
at 529-7308 or Mrs. Clarice Dalton at
