The Talk of the Town
For twelve members of the Teen Club of
the Christian Reformed Church, the
March break was a different and unique
experience. Accompanied by their pP rent
Rev. Dwayne and Gladys Thielke an,1 two
other adults, these fourteen and fifteen -
year -olds journeyed to Kalamazoo,
Michigan where they •spent the week
renovating old houses making them fit to
live in.
Under the organization "Habitat for
Humanity" they were originally scheduled
to go to Buffalo but plans were changed so
that they went to Kalamazoo. Some of
their endeavours included paint stripping,
vapor sealing and drywalling, installing
underlay, and a lot of general clean-up.
They camped in the church basement
and each morning started with an hour's
devotions studying the aspect of service to
others. Evenings and Saturday were spent
in fun tines and recreation.
It was a well worthwhile project that
neither adults or young people will forget.
Gordon and Bernice Johnstone visited
with their family last week, John and
Janet at Ajax then went on to Castleton
where they stayed with Bob and Marion
McComb.
Mike Sanderson of Goderich passed
away Tuesday, March 15. Mike and Anne
owned Sanderson's Ladies Wear for many
years situated where the Bank of Montreal
Commercial Banking now is located.
Dorothy and Nancy Brown vacationed in
St. Petersburg, Florida and they were join-
ed by Edward as soon as school was out.
Returning on Saturday, due to weather
and road conditions, it took longer to travel
from Toronto to Kitchener than it took to
fly from Florida to Toronto.
The . cultural Society were informed
to obtain all their grants they were re-
quired to have a full slate of officers so
Mary MacGillivray and Joan Robinson
were appointed 1st and 2nd Vice
Presidents.
At the Lucknow Presbyterian Church
Sunday morning a special service was held
for the Ordination of four new Elders.
Those being ordained included Rhoda
MacKenzie, Donalda Moffat, Rev. William
Henderson and T''aid Murray.
The groups that went on the bus trip to
Arizona arrived home Sunday about 5:45
p.m. They had a great trip travelling
around 7000 miles and saw a lot of different
country. Unfortunately the majority pick-
ed up a flu bug with several having to visit
the clinic. Those travelling from Lucknow
included Gordon and Shirley Brooks, Herb
and Alene Clark, his brother Ross and
Mary Clark from Beachville, Grant and
Lois Farrish, Lloyd and Anna Mae Mac-
Dougall, Leonard and Freda Maclnnes,
Mary McIntosh and her cousin Helen Ver-
chimak of Flint, Donald and Marion
MacKinnon, Lloyd and Muriel Moffat,
Harold and Muriel Ritchie, Mary Belle
PedO'.e and her sister Eva Ferguson and
George and Betty Moncrief and Grace
McKenzie -of Goderich.
Here is a little plug for the Lucknow Sen-
tinel. Why is a newspaper like a wife?
Because every man should have one of his
own and not look at his neighbor's.
PETROLEUM PRODUCTS
The Lucknow and District Co-operative took delivery of a new 1988 International Fuel
truck last week. The new truck, which has five compartments and can hold twice as
much as the old truck purchased in 1981, has a maximum capacity of 20,000 litres.
Doug Tiffin, Coop's Petroleum Manager, said "this new truck will enable us to service
our existing fuel accounts much more efficiently". The former fuel truck will now
have its tank removed and be transferred to the fertilizer division of the company. On
hand to welcome the new addition to the operation were, from left, Bruce Colwell, 2nd
term director; Steven Andrew, 1st year director and Chairman of the Property Com-
mittee; and Doug Tiffin. (Pat Livingston photo)
