The market at the Brussels Stockyard
last week traded $2 to $3 higher on all
classes of slaughter cattle. Sheep and
lambs traded sharply higher while pigs
sold under pressure.
In total, there were 712 cattle, 573 pigs
and 69 sheep and lambs on offer.
Choice steers sold 90 to 95 with sales to
100.75. Good steers sold 87 to 90.
Fourteen steers consigned by Lorne
Eadie of RR1 Holyrood, averaging 1279
lbs., sold for an average price of 92.12 with
sales to 93.85.
Forty-two steers consigned by Maple
Emblem Farms pf RR1 Dungannon,
averaging 1290 lbs., sold for an average
price of 90.68 with sales to 94.00,
Choice exotic heifers sold 90 to 94 with
sales to 98.50. Good heifers sold. 87 to 90.
A heifer consigned b7 Church Durrer of
RR3 Mildmay, weighing 1170 lbs., sold for
91.
Choice cows sold 61 to 67. Good cows sold
59 to 64 and canners and cutter sold 56 to
59.
Lambs 40 to 50 lilts traded from 1.81 to
2.15 per pound. Lambs 60 to 70 lbs sold 1.78
tb 1.89.
Pigs 30 to 40 lbs traded to a high of 1.00
per pound. Pigs 50 to 60 lbs traded to a high
of .84 per pound.
This Friday, March 25, the Brussels
Stockyards will hold a sheep and lamb sale
starting at 3 p.m.
Also, consignments are now being taken
for the first spring stocker and feeder sale
to be held Tuesday, April 12. For further
information on this sale, call 887-6461.
' On Tuesday evening, March 15th, Father
Mooney of Zurich, who is very active in the
Rural Life Conference, spoke in the
Kingsbridge Parish Hall.
Father Mooney addressed the topic of
Christian farmer's responsibilities in rela-
tionship to the earth and the environment
and his duties in preventing the destruc-
tion of God's creation through proper
stewal'dship of the land.
Several ladies of the St. Joseph's CWL
entertained the residents of Maitland
Manor is Goderich on Monday, March 14th
in honour of St. Patrick's Day with a
musical program and also at Country
Road Lodge in Ashfield Township on
Wednesday, March 16th. Father Ed also
led prayers and Scripture Readings.
St. Patrick's Day, Thursday, March 17th
saw a lively and entertaining program
presented in the Parish Hall with the par-
ticipation of local talent which we obvious-
ly have in abundance. The program, with
Master of Ceremonies Father Ed Den -
finger; featured skits, singing, tap danc-
ing, recitations and violin playing by the
very young to the not so young and was
greatly enjoyed by everyone present. The
evening closed with refreshments.
Sunday afternoon, March 20th, St.
Joseph's Easter duty penitential was held
in. the church in order that parishioners
might have• the opportunity to prepare for

sacrament of Reconciliation.
The parish family welcomes with joy
Shawn Bernard, infant son of Bridget and
Bernie Van Osch who received the sacra-
ment o: Baptism at St. Joseph's. Con-
gratulations to Bridget, Bernie and family.
Sunday evening, March 20th, following a
short meeting, the Youth Club enjoyed an
evening of bowling in Goderich.
Congratulations to Lori Dykstra, .Aman-
da Hickey, Daniel Nelson, 'Johannes
Poganatz, Beau Reigling, Patrick Dalton
and Matthew Dalton who received the
sacrament of Reconciliation for the first
time, Sunday, March 20th. We ask God's
blessings on these children on the wonder-
ful occasion.
The Father McCormick Council of the
Knights of Columbus led the Rosary Sun-
day evening for the repose of the soul of
John O'Connor whose funeral rriass was
celebrated at St. Joseph's, Monday, March
21st. John was a lifelong member of hte
parish.
