HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1988-03-16, Page 13Enjoying their holiday Grade 1 Grade one and Mrs. Bell have been very busy this week printing farm words, soun- ding and recording many new words in our readers and finishing up our farm activity centres. On Wednesday we wrote Shamrock letters to our Reading Buddies from Grade 5, thanking them for all their good reading with us. We planted 12 dif-. ferent farm crops in our farm. Two of us in charge of each field. This is our class pro- ject for the Science Fair on March 31. We had a skating party at the Arena. Jayme Sutherland is "Special Me" this week, and Ainsley Colwell was last week. They like their "Special Me" book that the class made for them. Grade 1/2 Now that March is here the Grade 1/2 class have been talking about special days in March and making a March vocabulary • list. Since it is nutrition month they are receiving house league points for nutritious items in their lunches. The students of Grade 1/2 were pleased and excited to have Mr. Pike present them with the "Class of the month" Banner. Grade 2/3 We have been finishing up many work units this week to complete our Winter Term. Everyone is looking forward to a GREAT HOLIDAY. Grade 4/5 It was Mrs. Forrest's birthday on Tues- day. We wished her a happy one tob. In the 'skip -a -then we raised over $1,300 dollars. The skate-a-thon is coming up. We are all looking forward to it. We started our Science Fair Projects. Grade 6 Our class is just finishing with our novel called Samantha's Secret Room. • where are this March By Ruth Anne Durnin and Teresa Jefferson The Kindergarten II class had fun with thermometers this week. They made tissue paper shamrocks and heard leprechaun stories. They were happy to see Mrs. Young again. Grade 1, Room 5 . Miss Mathers' Grade Ones have been busy taking about St. Patrick's Day. They read stories about the tricky leprechauns, learned some songs, and enjoyed making St. Patrick's Day art work. Grade 2, Room 3 This class made some 2-D shape mobiles out of pipe cleaners and straws. Grade 6 Mrs. Tebbutt's Gr. '6 ,class wrapped up their geometry unit wit a lesson on tessela- tions or geometric designs. They made the pattern shapes by dividing a circle into the desired angles; then used this pattern to decorate a sheet of paper. When they add- ed colour and lines, the art work looked quite original. The class had some help from Mrs. Graham. Reporters Tammy Roberts and Wayne Hunter Grade 7, Room 8 This class is having a fun fair on March 31. Any games, books and toys are accepted. Grade 7, Room 12 This Grade 7 class has finished their Sprit Bay visual novel and had a test on it on Thursday. They will ^ begin a reading novel over the March break. On Friday, the kids are visiting Lucknow Public School to see a play in the morning. The people who put it on are Tanglefoot and the title is "Dust and Dreams". It has laughter, music and adventure and will probably be enjoyed by all. The class had a test in math and French. In math they are studying ratios. Everyone is looking forward to the March break. Survey This week's question was "Where are you going on the March break?" LCPS • NS I.DER Most of our people were assigned History projects on Henry Hudson's Mutiny. They turned out quite well. Some of the students have the chance to go to Wilfrid Laurier University to see some of the best women's volleyball teams in the world. Grade 7/8 Our educational experiences seem to be expanding each term. Over the next few weeks we will have the opportunity to learn from a professional touring group called Tanglefoot. They are ministrels, story -tellers, singers who will share a piece of Canadian history with us. A little later in the month, a number of our students will travel to Waterloo one evening to view pre -Olympic volleyball competitions. Meanwhile, back in class, we are taking a little time to acquaint ourselves with some "indepth" language studies in the hope we can improve our writing and communication skills. Grade 8 Our Grade 8 students have started ' a greek mythology unit in the past week. They are taking a look at life before the mechanical age and writing their own myths and legends. We would like to congratulate the boys in grades 7 and 8 who are terrific hockey players. they going break? BROOKSIDE ROADCAST Dillion Moore, Grade 1, is going •to R.O.M. and to the CN tower. ' Rachel Cameron, Grade 1, is going to Florida and Disney. Brent Cameron, Grade 3, is going to • British Columbia. Jessica Daily, Grade 3, is having a birth- day and for her party they are going skating. Tanya Maize, Grade 4, is going to the Lucknow Skate-a-thon. Trevor Moffat, Grade 4, is going to play hockey. Karen Hodges, Grade 5, is going to. Chatham. Janice Webster, Grade 7, is going to take a course m computers, help with ICONS at Blyth and make maple syrup. Mark Andrew, Grade 8, is going to Frankenmuth. Mr. Tremeer, principal, is going to curl in the Ontario finals in Gravenhurst for four days. Valentine's Tree Brookside's Valentine's tree raised $75.00. The money goes to the Canadian Save The Children Fund. Food, books and medicine for Third World Countries will be purchased with the money. Olympic Team The Dinosaur Den Treehouse .cience Lab Olympic Team is now finishing scrap- books about "Children at Work". When they learned about Pablo, who shines shoes to help his family, they did chores 1 shoeshines 1 to see how many shoeshines it would take Pablo to buy food, or a visit to the doctor. They collected•166 chores! They also tried "Huancayo", a potato food that Papa might eat high in the mountains of Peru.
