Monday's game played in Lucknow could be. called the Chris Stevenson night as he alone net- ted five goals for the club. Wainfleet opened the scoring in the con- test while Lucknow was short a man, and netted number two when the puck hit a Lucknow defenseman and bounced in. Rob Crich started the Lucknow attack when he let one go from the blueline. Assist to Justin Murray on that one. Murray came back with one of his own minutes later with help from Brad Rhody. This tied the game late in the first but Wainfleet moved ahead with just 1:21 re- maining in the opening frame. Stevenson started the second period scoring as he threw one over the shoulder of the Wainfleet netminder but revenge was done as Wainfleet again took the lead 4 - 3 to end the second. Wainfleet scored early in the third to go up by two but this didn't stop Stevenson from storming back and netting four straight for the win. Justin Murray and Brad Rhody collected assists on the Stevenson flurry. The game ened with Lucknow up 7 - 5. The second game of the week came Wednesday in Wainfleet and Lucknow simply stole the show with a 5 - 0 win on the road. Adam Skillen collected the shutout for Lucknow. The game got off to a quick start as Lucknow netted four goals in the first eleven minutes of play. Wainfleet wouldn't roll over though a pressured Skillen into making some outstanding saves. Lucknow goals came from Warren An- drews with help from Clint Murray and Rob Crich; Justin Murray from Andrews; Darryl Gibson with a picture perfect pass- ing play courtesy of Chris Humphrey and Vince Sticklend; Matt Sproul from Clint M.irray; and Justin Murray with assists to Brad Rhody and Chris Stevenson. Lucknow now advances to the semi- finals against Thamesford with the first game going in Thamesford tonight. The teams will do1battle here in Lucknow Fri- day night starting at 8:30. Lucknow Bantams capture consolation Luckow Bantams The Lucknow Bantams had a very suc- cessful weekend at the 19 -team Harriston Bantam B Tournament. The Lucknow boys finished the weekend with three wins and a single loss to take the Consolation Championship. In their opening game of the tourney, Lucknow was well matched against Alma - Logan and were able to take an early two point lead on a blast from the point off the stick of defenseman Jamie Johnston and a neat pass from Donnie Gammie to feed Brad Murray who found the mark. Late in the second with two Lucknow boys in the penalty box, Alma -Logan net- ted their first goal on a disputed delayed - penalty goal. They tied the game early in the third period when the Lucknow defense gave up the puck in the slot, and went ahead when a scramble in front of the net resulted in goal number three. • Although Lucknow outshot their opposi- tion for the remainder of the game, they were unable to beat the goalie. A late emp- ty net goal by Alma -Logan put the game out of reach and dropped Lucknow down to the consolation side of the tourney. • In their second game of the weekend, this one against Shelburne, Lucknow ap- peared lackluster in the early going and allowed Shelburne to take an early lead. Lucknow stormed back during the final two periods of play and outshot their op- position 25 to 5. Brad Murray tied the game at one after taking a pass and flipping his own rebound high over the shoulder. Shelburne fought back and regained their lead after the puck was stolen from a fallen defenseman. Despite play much of the third period shorthanded, Lucknow was flying but were unable to beat -I determined Shelburne net - minder. Lucknow opted to pull their goalie Helm for a face-off in front of the Shelburne net...and the play worked as a scramble left the puck in the net to again tie the contest. Seconds later, Brad Murray scored 'the winner and alloks ed his team to advance in the tnurnpv. k;ame of the 'weekend provided i,'st competition for Lucknow. 'n,lde.some amazing stops in ! ,& ad his team to a big win over a ruggeu ut us6els team. Lucknow took an early, lead in this one and didn't stike again until the thrid period. The ,arae from the line of Brad Murrriv )onn;i, Gammie and Rod Crich. Brussels dica manage, to poke one in before the end of the game to rob Helm of his shutout. During the game, defenseman Gavin Hunter recieved a mild concussion and Dennis Park took a bad elbow injury. We trust the boys will be back in the lineup soon. Following this win, the scene was set for the final game against Drayton. Lucknow came out fired up and was again lead by Paul Helm between the pipes. Good hustle and aggressive play was provided by Mike Millian, Dale Priestap and Steve Rintoul. Although not high on the scoring list, these boys play a great game. The big scoring line of Murray, Gammie and Crich gave Lucknow its offense as Donnie netted two while the other linemates settled for one apiece. The team was stingy at the blueline, agressive in the corners, tough in front of the net and a great effort was turned in by Russel Sutton, Jamie Johnston, Gavin Hunter and Dennis Park. The boys cane be very proud of their efforts in the tourna- ment under the guidance of Gerald Mur- ray and Evans Helm. Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday.
