Kevin Smith placed second and Sandy Maclntyre placed third. All are Grade 11 students at Madill. Best Actress and Actor Heather Morton was selected Best Ac- tress and Pat Cull Best Actor at the third annual Central Huron Drama Festival held recently in Blyth. The two Madill DramaClub members were part of the cast of "Pause", which also took the Best Overall Production Award at the competition. Curling The highlight of the Madill boys curling team was competing in the All -Ontario Schoolboys' Curling Championships at Welland. Madill's Darryl Button rink was one of the eight finalists out of 200 teams competing. Madill coach Dave Hawkins reports that this marked the first time in the more than 20 years he has been coaching that a local team has been one of the rinks at the All - Ontario finals. Joyce Pickard was the high single score roller this week with 254 while Shani Webb - Ziegler rolled a triple score of 678. Each of the curlers was presented with a trophy. In addition Steve McKague was selected as vice -skip on the all-star All - Ontario team, and received a trophy for this honor. Acro -Cheer Squad Members of the Madill Acro -Cheer squad must believe in "practice makes perfect". The 20 members, two subs, three coaches and manager cram four practices per week, September to June, into busy schedules of studies, jobs, teaching and other activities. The squad was rewarded for their efforts recently by winning the Western Ontario cheering competition held at the Universi- ty of Western Ontario, London, in which 12 teams took part. Team members are: Leisa Rau, Jason Coultes, Melinda Hussey, Sean Rathburn, Ria Linardatos, Brett Martin, Nikki Reavie, Chris Mickie, Cathy Maier, Matt King, Christi Hunter, Nigel Taylor, Hailey Robertson, Dan Dikert, Kendra Penn- ington, Steve Thyme, Lisa Chapman, Brett Gillispie, Hilary Gould, and Scot Bateman; two subs, Angela Kerr, Jason Conley; manager, Marla Hussey, teacher coaches, Mrs. Louanna Alexander and Ted Doherty. Mark Hussey, a Madill graduate and last year's captain of the team, also coaches. Good luck to the team in the Canada -U.S. finals March 25 through 27 at Niagara Falls. Hockey Mustangs The Madill Hockey Mustangs are the. new Huron County high school hockey Champions following their two -game total - goal victory over South Huron District High School Panthers of Exeter. Wingham won the first game 6-2 and handed Exeter an 8-2 loss in the second game for a two -game total of 14-4. In the WOSSA tournament in London March 8, the Mustangs played "one heck of a game" according to George Gibson, manager. The Mustangs had the lead over Sarnia Collegiate, when at the 43 minute mark of the third Sarnia tied it at 272. Sar- nia went ahead by one in the overtime and put the insuring goal in an empty net to win 4-2. The two evenly matched teams displayed speed and motion.
