His name was Edward Russel MacKay (1871-1943) and his brother's name was Malcolm MacKay. Their father's name was John MacKay, mother's name, Elizabeth Isabella Camp- bell. I have no dates for these two people. They arrived in Lucknow prior to the birth of Edward and Malcolm with at least three other sons, Hugh, James and Angus and probably one daughter. It is very possible John MacKay and his wife Elizabeth are buried in the Lucknow area. Their religion is given as Presbyterian. If any of your readers have any informa- tion on this family I would appreciate hearing from them. Sincerely, Donna MacKay, 4808 Alton Pl, Courtenay, British Columbia V9N 7E5 To the Editor: Spring flowers, green grass, leafy trees usher in this season of new life. What a delight to look around and enjoy all of the spring beauty. Did you know that there are forty two million people in the Developing World who cannot enjoy this glory, and the sad thing is thirty million are needlessly blind. In the fall of 1987, I visited India and Bangladesh with my husband. We visited Operation Eyesight Universal sponsored hospitals and eye camps, where sight - giving cataract operations were performed. I held a happy, once -blind four-year-old girl, who will now be able to return to her village and romp and play with her friends. I held the hand of a seven-year-old boy as he received the injection in his tem- ple in preparation for cataract surgery. He was looking forward to school and learn- ing. A sixty -year-old woman will now be able to see her grandson and a man is look- ing forward to returning to work to support his family. There were so many quiet, ban- daged patients all awaiting the day when the bandages would be removed - the final step in this trip from darkness into light. Operation Eyesight Universal is a registered Canadian Charity carrying on very intensive blindness prevention pro- grams, working m 13 countries of the Developing World, bringing light and new life to the destitute blind. Something happened in Chittagong, Bangladesh that I would like to share with your readers. We attended a District Meeting of Lions, Lionesses and Leos Clubs. As the meeting ended and we head- ed for the exit, the lights went out. We were feeling our way along in the darkness when a gentle voice said, "Take my hand, I will lead you." A Leo guided me safely down the aisle and up the few steps to the lobby. The lights came on, he disappeared into the crowd and we were whisked off to our next appointment. Later, as I went over this brief encounter with darkness, I realized that this is what Operation Eyesight is all about. Operation Eyesight Universal, with the help of the people of Canada is saying to the destitute blind of the world - "Take our hands, we will lead you from darkness into light." A twenty-five dollar cheque will take one person on this journey to new life. Will you extend a helping hand? Donations may be sent to Operation Eyesight Universal, P.O. Box 123, Stn. `M', Calgary, Alberta, T2P 2H6. At this Easter Time, as we remember God's great gift of His Son to all the world, may'we show our real Love by helping so- meone for Jesus' sake - someone who can never return the favor.
