Slight !ead for Lucknow
in Peewee play action
Lucknow PeeWee A's
The Lucknow PeeWee A team is off to a
good start in the OMHA hockey series
against Wainfleet having compiled one win
and one tie in two games.
Game one of the series was played on
home ice with Wainfleet scoring only once
while Lucknow netted four.
Vince Sticklend got the game rolling as
he made no mistake taking a pass from
Chris Humphrey and depositing it in the
net. Clint Murray put the second marker
away during a wild flurry infront of the
Wainfleet net.
It was Chris Stevenson rattling the
goalie for the third as he swooped in and lit
the scoreboard. Justin Murray and Terry
Stanley took assists on that one.
Wainfleet's only goal came midway into
the second but Lucknow got in back late in
the third when Justin Murray chipped in a
Stevenson rebound.
Come the second game of the series, it
was a different story on the ice as both
teams battled for a win. It was Lucknow
then Wainfleet one after tht other on the
score sheet.
Chris Stevenson took a super pass from
Brad Rhody for the only goal of the first
period.
Wainfleet scored early in the second to
tie the match but Vince Sticklend got the
go ahead from the side of the net after hard
work from linemates Darryl Gibson and
Chris Humphrey.
After Wainfleet tied it again in the se-
cond it was Chris Stevenson's turn to blast
one in off the faceoff with just 30 seconds
left in the middle period.
In the third period, Wainfleet would not
roll over but rather stormed back to take a
4 - 3 lead. Stevenson found his hat -trick by
netting the tying goal assisted by Justin
Murray and Brad Rhody.
During the 10 minute overtime period, it
looked like a win for Lucknow as Rhody
netted a goal from Stevenson but Wainfleet
again came back to tie just before the final
buzzer.
This leaves Lucknow with three points to
Wainfleet's one and means Lucknow must
win two more games before advancing.
The teams play tonight in Wainfleet and
are back in Lucknow this Friday.
Fans...get there early for Friday's game
as it promises to be exciting hockey from
the opening faceoff on.
