Lancers down Drayton, and ready for Ripley
Lucknow Intermediates
The Lucknow Lancers pulled up their
socks last week after their initial loss in a
playoff series wkth Drayton. The Lancers
stormed back with confidence to win the
next four games and take the series four
games to one.
The Lancers found their scoring punch
in the second game as they managed to
pop 14 goals in the Drayton net while their
opposition countered with only 7.
Art Clark, Steve MacPherson and
Wayne Phillips led the scoring with two
goals each while singles went to Paul
Maclntyre, Scott Gibson, Dave Gibson,
Grant Gilchrist, Don Elliott and Steve
Simpson.
The third game of the series, played in
Lucknow, saw the Lancers fight back from
a 3 - 1 deficit to post a 5 - 4 win over the
visitors and take a 2 - 1 lead in the best -of -
seven series. Wayne Phillips, Steve Simp-
son, Pat Murray, Dave Gibson and Allan
Eadie did the damage for the Lancers
while Ray Guay played well between the
posts to hold the opposition to four.
This win sent the series back to Drayton
for game four and at the end of regulation

group series playoffs
Lucknow Bantams
Lucknow's Bantams completed their
group playoff series last week with a
strong 10 - 6 win over their Tiverton
opponents.
Gavin Hunter opened the scoring for
Lucknow in the game as the tough
defensman broke through the tight check-
ing to find the mark. This goal opened the
floodgates and Lucknow netted five more
goals in the next five minutes.
Come the second period, ,Tiverton
wouldn't die and stormed back to net four
goals in the opening three minutes to pull
within one of Lucknow's six.
In the third period, Lucknow's scrappy
forward, Dale Priestap, fired up his team-
mates and led them to victory by scoring
three straight goals for the natural hat -
trick. Mike Vandervelde assisted in setting
up,all of Dale's goals.
By the end of the contest, Priestap and
Brad Murray had each counted for four
goals. Gavin Hunter and Dennis Park each
added singles in the win.
In a home -and -home exhibition series
with Wingham played last week, the
Lucknow club came away with a split.
decision.
In the first game, the Lucknow offense
had a tough time getting going as
Wingham outshot their rivals three to one.
Goalies Allen Kikkert and Paul Helm were
peppered with over fifty shots in the game
and, to their credit, allowed only eight.
Scoring for Lucknow in the loss was
Russel Sutton from. Donnie Gammie and
Brad Murray.
In the second game, Lucknow found
Wingham's number and took home the
vistory in a close contest. '
Lucknow took an early lead on a goal by
Murray, assists to Gammie and Sutton,
but Wingham stormed back to tie the
game.
This pattern. continued with Lucknow
goals coming from Donnie Gammie.. with
two, Rod Crich and Russel Sutton. Brad
Murray had a great game picking up a
point on each Lucknow goal. •
Novices up two to none
Lucknow Novice
The Lucknow team entered into their
playoff series with Ripley before the
hometown fans earlier this month and, as
of press time, now lead the series two
game to none.
In the first game, played in Lucknow,
Ripley's Darren Bolton lit up the
scoreboard first early in the opening
period.
Come the second, Lucknow rifled four
consecutive markers past the Ripley net -
minder before Ripley could add their se-
cond on the night, Scoring for Lucknow
was Jeff Porter from Stuart Rintoul;
Michael Puddy with two from Ian Paolin
and Trevor Moffat; and Brent Cameron
also from Porter. Lucknow led 4 - 2 at the
end of two.
A face pace was kept up by both teams in
the game that saw Lucknow add three
more goals in the third to finish the game 7
- 2 in their favour.
Lucknow goals in the third came from
Glenn Ferguson, unassisted; Jeff Porter
from Lee Drennan; Ferguson from
Porter; and Jay Humphrey unassisted.
Lucknow team of Curt Humphrey and
Graeme Hunter played an excellent game
in the nets to count a win in the first game
of the series.
Game two of the contest was played in
Ripley last Saturday and Lucknow played
very well despite having two key members
away. Jeff Porter was holidaying in
Florida and Michael Puddy was ill.
Ed Courtney joined the team for this
game and he had a great night scoring
once and assisting on another.
Ripley had many chances in the game
but the duo of Humphrey and Hunter made
the right moves to stop the rubber and
brought home a well deserved shut -out.
Lucknow goals came from Glenn
Ferguson from Courtney; Courtney from
Ferguson and Mark Kerr; and Ferguson
for the third from Stuart Rintoul,
Lucknow has had a strong series so far
with Ripley and the action continued last
night here in Lucknow. Watch for a full

In the ensuing overtime play, the
Lancers came out flying and tested the
Drayton goaltender several times. before
' Steve Simpson's blast from the blueline
eluded the net mihder to clinch the 5 - 4
victory.
Paul Maclntyre, Grant Gilchrist, Larry
MacPherson and Steve Simpson scored in
regulation time to force the overtime. Ray
Guay again had a super game in the net for
the Lancers.
Game five in the series was back in
Drayton and with the hometown team
down three games to one, the contest
quickly turned into a grudge match,
,Pat Murray's shot gave the Lancers an
early lead before Don Elliott netted what
proved to be the game winner as Draytbn
could manage only one marker against
Guay. -
Larry MacPherson added one in the se-
cond and Art Clark another in the third to
give the Lancers a 4 -1 win in the game and
the series.
The Lancers suffered one big loss during
the winning series against Drayton as
defenseman Don Elliott will be out for the
remainder of the season due to injuries
suffered in the final game.
The Lancers now advance to meet
Ripley tonight ( Wednesday) in Ripley. The
next home action for the Lancers comes
Sunday night with game time set at 7 p.m.
It was a tie game following regulation time as Lucknow took on Brussels for the Con-
solation trophy in the Tykes Hockey Tournament held over the weekend. A shoot-out
was needed to decide the winner and when it was all'said and done, Brussels emerged
