The board of governors at the Wingham
and District Hospital has set its 1988 rates
for those not covered by OHIP. The rates
reflect an overall increase of 4.2 per cent
effective April 1.
Semi -private coverage has been increas
ed to $32.50 per day from $31, while the dai-
ly rate for a private room has gone to $61
from $58.
The uninsured ward rate for outpatient
services is $48.50 and is the same for a se-

year's $285.

cupational and physiotherapy and diet
counselling services and who are not
covered by OHIP will be expected to pay
$30:50 for an initial visit and $18.50 for any

A motion tabled ,at the closed January
meeting of the board of governors stating
the facility's, intention to proceed with a
two-phase project was brought forth to the
February meeting.
The first phase, or initial thrust, will be
to improve the services offered in the in-
, tensive care and coronary care units, as
well asthe operating rooms and maternity
area.
The second phase will consist of im-
provements to the chronic care, rehabilita-
tion and pediatrics departments and any
other areas which may need updating in
the near future.
A consulting firm recently completed a
role study on future directions of the
hospital and a master plan and master
program study are currently underway.
No move can be made by the board until
the results of the master plan and program
have been completed.
In a telephone interview following the
meeting, Norman Hayes, the hospital's ex-
ecutive director, said the results of the
master plan and program may be
available by June of this year.
Gala fundraiser
The Wingham and District Hospital
Foundation is planning a gala fundraising
event which they hope will come to be this
June.
The fundraising barbecue and dance
was a subject of considerable discussion at
the last regular meeting of the board of
governors. The board's public relations
committee is assisting in promoting the
event.
The gala will be held June 24 at the Turn -
berry Township residence of board
member Doris Inglis, reported Janet
Clark, chairman of the public relations
committee.
Mrs. Clark said that 100 tickets will be
sold for the barbecue at $100 per couple, a
portion of which will be income tax
deductable.
The barbecue will be held outdoors and
tents will be rented. Mrs. Inglis said she
has arranged for for valet parking and an
orchestra has been hired for that date.
She called the barbecue "a classy
event" and Mrs. Clark added that if suc-
cessful, it could become an annual event.
In other news arising from the recent
hospital board meeting, it was revealed
that an ambitious project to replace all
out -dated windows at the facility has been
approved by the Ontario Ministry of
Health.
Bob Middleton, chairman of the proper-
ty committe for the hospital, reported that
the total cost of the project has been
estimated at $360,000. Of that amount the
ministry will provide two-thirds funding,
or $240,000, leaving the. local hospital's
share at $120,000.
The project is expected to go to tender on
March 29.
The board of governors also took the
time to honour retiring employee Florence
Ohm with a certificate of achievements
during their regular monthly meeting.
Mrs. Ohm has worked as a dietary aide at
the hospital for 20 years and was presented
the certificate by Janet Clark.
