The meeting of the Bruce Presbytery of
the United Church of Canada. on Feb. I6
discussed the issue of Sunday openings. A
petition was sent off to Hamilton Con-
.
ference
on-
ference concerning this issue.
The intent of the petition was that Chris-
tians refrain from shopping on Sunday,
that the Ontario Government be called on
to ammend the Ontario Retail Business
Holiday Act so that stores could open on
Sunday only if they were habitually closed
on another day of the week, that the
Government and the , municipalities be
made aware of this petition. Another peti-
tion of the Sunday openings encouraged
members of the Church to write express-
ing their Concerns to the Ontario
Government.
In other petitions members of the
Presbytery were asked to study the Abor-
tion issue and make their concerns known
to the Federal Government. It was pointed
out that the issue of abortion is a complex
one and needed careful study and thought.
In other business. Brian Ireland. the co-
ordinator of the Queen's Bush Rural
Ministries was introduced to the Court. He
spoke about the kind and number of calls
that he received. The Ministry is being
well received. If anyone wishes to talk to
Brian about any problems they can call
hint at 362-6090.

at the church on Wednesday afternoon
with Mrs. Donald McEwan hostess. Mrs.
Bert Thompson opened the meeting with a
thought for the day.
The opening hymn was "O Master Let
Me Walk With Thee" followed by the pur-
pose. The word for the roll call was a Bible
verse with the word "escape".
Mrs. Bruce Bushell read the minutes
and the communications. Mrs. Don Reid
had the devotions with the theme on
"Prayer" and began with prayer. Each
lady read a scripture and explained how
we apply these Scriptures in our daily
lives.
Mrs. Bert Thompson had the Study on
the Orthodox Churches in Russia and
played a tape telling the customs, the
liturgy and beauty of their sanctuary and
how the converted Christians were making
such a faithful witness, closing with a Rus-
sian prayer.
Grace, food and fellowship closed a very
pleasant afternoon.
