Unit 1
Unit 1 of the Lucknow United Church
Women met February 2, in the fellowship
room of the Church.
Deanna Reavie opened with a poem,
Count Your Blessings, in Seeping with the
theme, Farming in 1988. The rollcall was a
Bible verse pertaining to the land and was
answered by five members, who also paid
their Membership dues.
The minutes were read and approved
and the offering received. The treasurer's
report was followed by the fellowship of
the least coin on Libya.
The mystery jar was passed around as
each one donated a penny for each room in
their home.
World • Day o1 Prayer is March 4 and
Bruce Presbyterial on March 7. Don't
forget groceries for Friendship House in
Goderich.
After a discussion it was decided,
`Women of the Bible', would be studied
during the coining year.
Evelyn Cook reported r Community
Friendship and Visiting.
Following the United Church Benedic-
tion Unit 1 joined 2 and 3 for worship and
program.
Unit 2
Unit 2 met in the Church parlour with
nine members in attendance.
All members formed a circle placing
pennies in a container for foreign coun-
tries, then joined hands and a prayer was
read.
Mrs.. Rev. McFarlane chaired the
meeting and read a poem `Gardens and
Gardener' in keeping with the theme for
the joint meeting to follow.
The rollcall was answered with a Bible
verse containing the word land.
The minutes were read and approved
and the importance of visiting sick and
shut-ins was discussed.
The Benediction was repeated and all
adjourned to the joint meeting.
Unit 3
Unit 3 met in the choir room with the new
leader Mrs. Albert Cook presiding. She
opened with a poem The Greatest Need in
this World is Love'.

`Crisis on the Farm'

The treasurer's report was given, the of-
fering and birthday jar collection taken
and dedicated and the collection of The
Least Coin. Mrs. Lemoine will now look
after this collection.
The meeting closed with 'Blessed
Assurance' accompanied by Mrs. Webster
followed by prayer by Mrs. Cook.
Joint Meeting
Mrs. Stuart Reavie presided for the pro-
gram of the joint meeting of Units 1, 2 and
3. The theme was `Creation in Crisis', with
the meditation •atewardhip of the Land'.
Noma Campbell, Donalda Ritchie and
Marion McFarlane took part in the scrip-
ture and meditation.
The members joined in singing hymns
and prayer.
Mrs. Reavie interviewed an Ontario
farmer's wife, read by Lois Goodhue and
an African farmer's wife, read by Edith
Webster. The film strip `Crisis on the
Farm' was viewed. It illustrated the dif-
ferences and- similarities between a
farmer' and his wife from the Wheatley
area and a farmer and his family in
Africa.
A questionnaire was answered and all
agreed that the farm crisis was everyone's
concern and that we should all practice
stewardship of our land.
Mrs. Morrison closed with a Prayer for
the Earth.
Lunch and a social time followed.
Unit 4
Unit 4 of the Lucknow United Church
Women met on February 2 with an atten-
dance of 16. The rollcall was answered
with a verse on Love.
'the program committee, Mrs. Gordon
Cayley, Mrs. Bob Finlay and Mrs. Gerry
Priestap, continued the mission study,

produce.
Scriptures from the Old Testament were
read and a quiz t on,: icted on food and
farm facts.
Mrs. Cayley introduced and showed a
film strip, Family Farms, Our Link to the
Land. In it a Canadian farmer and an
African woman shared their experiences
of the crisis in family farmring.
Following a discussion on the
similarities and differences in the two
countries, the unit was divided into groups
for further discussion on the causes and
what can be done.

Mrs. Finlayy dealt with pastoral counsell-
ing in, times of crisis and also read from
the Obst ••er, along the same theme, about
two developments on the domestic
political front during 1987 in Canada.
Mrs. Priestap read the scripture on the
good Samaritan and closed with prayer.
Mrs. Cayley explained the Fellowship of
the Least Coin and offered a prayer for the
people of Brazil.

Mrs. George McBride, unit leader, con-
ducted the business.
World Day of Prayer is March 4 in the
United Church.
The treasurer's report was given by
Mrs. Ken Cameron.
Mrs. Stuart Collyer read an article on
citizenship and Mrs. Clarence Ritchie on
stewardship. Mrs. Cliff Crawford reported
for community friendship and Mrs. Cayley
for amnesty.
The meeting closed with prayer and. a
social time.
Dungannon
WI meets
On February 4, 14 members of the
Dungannon WI met for a luncheon
meeting, served by Marion Zinn and Dora
Alton, at the home of Dorothy Harris in
Lucknow.
President Elmira opened the meeting
with a poem. The meeting opened with the
Opening • Ode and the Mary Stewart
Collect.
Roll call was "name a favorite article
made from wood which is in your home."
Some of the answers were a chopping
board, rolling pin, baking board, chair,
and wood carvings.
In correspondence, a thank -you note was
received from Alvin Kerr. The scholar-
ship was mentionned as was a request for
articles for the Friendship House in
Goderich.
The motto, "Think Canadian, Live Cana-
dian, Buy Canadian" was given by Essie
Gibson. She closed with two lovely poems.
At this time, collection and Pennies for
Friendship were received. Next month,
pennies for friendship will be seven cents
for each radio and television in the home.
Willetta, convener of Consumer Affairs,
showed a film entitled "Fraud You Lose".
President Elmira thanked Dorothy for
use of her home and all who took part in
the meeting. She then closed the meeting
with a poem entitled "Your Valentine."
