Speakers Bureau formed
Last year, The Ontario Public School
Teachers' Federation launched a new con-
cept m education — a Speakers' Bureau.
The members of the OPSTF belie#e that
education does not go on entirely within
the walls of our schools; there are a varie-
ty of situations in which adults engage in
many valuable educational activities, in-
cluding athletic groups, volunteer clubs,
church committees and recreational
activities.
Is your club looking for guest speakers?
Would youlike to learn more about the
topics listed below? We have a number of
members who have volunteered to speak
to service clubs on these topics.
If you are interested in a presentation on
one of the areas listed below, please feel
free to contact Richard Maertens,
Chairperson of the OPSTF Public Rela-
tions Committee, at 335-3566 during school
hours to book a convenient time for a
speaker to present his/her topic of interest
to your club.
Topics
China, Heart and Stroke Foundation, In-
dividualizing Education, Inuit Culture,
Leadership, Learning Activities For
Preschool Children, Liberal Arts in Educa-
tion, Lion's Quest Programme, Loss As A
Natural Part of Living, Rationale of the
Curriculum, Stress, Stress Management,
Values, Influences and Peers Programme.
Happy Hearts meet
despite bad weather
In spite of stormy weather the Ripley
Happy Hearts met on Feb. 12 in the Legion
Hall which was nicely decorated for Valen-
tine's Day. President Florence Kirkpatrick
welcomed everyone and opened the meeting
with a reading.
With Marion at the piano they sang the
opening song and O''Canada, then Bill Col-
lins led a lively sing song pertaining to
Valentine's Day. The minutes were adopted
as read and Marj Thompson reported
several cards and boxes had been sent to the
sick. Freda Collins gave the treasurer's
report and Sadie MacLeod reported that
Ripley was second highest in collecting for
the Arthritis Society. Chester Emmerton
advertised the next dance for Feb. 25 and
the euchre parties and bowling are being
well attended.
Jack Scott and Clarence Hedley took
charge for the program which began with
Bob Courtney on the saxophone accom-
panied by sister Jerry MacLeod on the
piano. A mystery' man in the form of Bill
Collins made a brief appearance in
costume, followed by a reading by Zella
Hedley on "The Old Iron Pump" and "The
Equalizer".
Jack introduced Floyd Stanley, principal
of Ripley Huron School, who showed slides
on a holiday he and his family had a year
ago when they spent over.three months in
Australia and New Zealand. He was thanked
and presented with a gift of appreciation by
Clarence.
More saxophone music was enjoyed and
Clarence thanked Bob and Jerry and
presented them with a gift.
The courtesies were given by Chester Em-
merton and the closing song, The Queen and
Grace led up to a lunch of sandwiches and
tea and a social chat.
