AIDS program discussed
Several parishioners who are Pro -Life
members attended the regular monthly
Pro -Life meeting at their office on the
Square in Goderich on Monday evening,
Feb. 8th. Discussed were final prepara-
tions for the official opening of the new of-
fice and the training of volunteers to
answer the phone as counsellors.
Tuesday evening school staff and
several parents attended a meeting at St.
Mary's School in Goderich to discuss the
AIDS program to be introduced into the
school curriculum.
Bible study classes are continuing in the
school each Thursday evening. Presently
the class is studying Moses and the events
leading up to the Exodus.
Public speaking was the big event of the
school this week with students from Grade
4 - 8 participating. The judges faced a most
difficult task of picking winners as the
speakers all had excellent presentations
and can all be classed "winners".
However, as only two speakers from each
of the junior and intermediate levels could
advance to the zone finals in Goderich and
the Legion Public Speaking contest in
Lucknow first and second place finishers
had to be picked.
Congratulations and good luck to Sheila
Stright and Dawn Marie Wilson the In-
termediate winners and Becky and Heidi
Martin the Junior level winners. For the
Intermediates, Sheila finished first with
her topic of "Forgetfulness", Dawn Marie
second speaking on "Superstitions;, and
third place finisher was Amy Olson with a
speech on "T.V. Advertisements".
For the juniors Becky Martin finished
first with a speech about "Teasing", Heidi
Martin second speaking on. "Brothers"
and Joe Dalton finishing third speaking on
"Writing Speeches".
In preparation for Ash We.. sday anc
the beginning of Lent the students had the
opportunity to receive the Sacrament of
Reconciliation on Thursday morning.
Friday brought Valentine's celebration
and parties in the classrooms in spite of
the stormy weather which eventually
resulted in the students being sent home at
2:00 p.m. Friday afternoon, cancelling the
skating which was to have taken place in
Goderich.
In a Valentine's Day draw for two prizes,
KINGSBRIDGF.
By Louise Martin
the first, a jar of cinnamon hearts, where
the winner was Robbie Grubb, had to
guess the number of hearts, the proceeds
went to the Students' Council. In the se-
cond, a draw for a stuffed dog, the winner
was Daniel Nelson, and the proceeds went
to Holy Childhood.
On Sunday morning after the 10:30 a.m.'
mass the Grade 7 & 8 students and their
parents put on a most successful Pancake
Breakfast to raise money for the trip the
Grade 7 & 8 class will be taking to Toronto
for three days early in June. All students
are currently engaged in obtaining orders
for cheese so anyone wishing to order may
contact any of the students or staff.
