Seniors Day .Centre
by Pam Williams
With the month of February upon us we
are that much closer to the season of spr-
ing. The question of the month will pro
bably be "Did the ground hog see its
shadow?"
For the next six weeks we will have a
student from Fanshawe College in Londoh
helping us with our programs. Joelle
Reavie is studying Recreation Leadership
at college and she will be gaining ex-
perience in the recreation field for older
adults by assisting at the centre. Miss
Reavie will be conducting a program
survey at the centre as well as helping to
plan special activities, and help with our
regular routine at the centre.
During the time period ( Feb. 13 - 28th )
that the XV Winter Olympic Games will be
in Calgary, the Day Centre will also have
Olympic Events. Of course they won't
necessarily be the same events as the of-
ficial winter games but hopefully they'll
prove to be just as exciting.
The foot clinics at the centre will be on
February 11 and 24. The clinics are provid-
ed by Community Nursing Services "but
call the. Day Centre to book an appoint-
ment ( 357-1445).
The last week in February we will be try-
ing to warm up from winter by having a
"tropical week" or Hawaii week. Par-
ticipants will be asked to wear bright, col-
ourful summer clothing and the Day Cen-
tre will provide leis, tropical food and hula
dancing. That should warm us up a little in
preparation for spring.
The Day Centres' main aim is to provide
social and recreational day program for
homebound older adults in southern Bruce
county and northern Huron county.
Transportation to and from the centre is
provided as well as a full course noon meal
and daily activities. Please call us for
more information.
A thought for the month of February
could be "Worry is like a rocking chair. —
it gives you something to do, but doesn't
get you anywhere."
We need extra volunteer drivers from
the Lucknow area to drive on Wednesday
or Thursday for our Day Centre program.
Mileage is paid to basically cover a bit of
"wear and tear" on your car but otherwise
we are a non-profit charitable organiza-
tion. A four door car is the most accessible
so therefore that would be a preference.
Please call 357-1440, 357-1445 for more
information.

installation of officers. Following this Mary

Presbyterial held in Walkerton. Business
part of the meeting was conducted by Mary
MacDonald.

This year's study book "Eyes to See, Ears
to Hear", was introduced by Mary Mac-
Donald and Betty Johnson. The study cen-
tres on Christian life in the U.S.S.R. Chris-
tianity is alive in the U.S.S.R. but those
practising this faith must maintain a low
profile. They may worship, but must not
spread the Gospel to others.
Those who do practice the Christian faith
forfeit any chance of promotion in the work
place. As well, Christian children attending
the schools are pressured into joining the
communist youth party. If parents do not
allow their children to jdin they live in
danger of having their childrentaken from
them and placed in a boarding school run by
the party.
It is certainly not easy to be a Christian in
the U.S.S.R.
In keeping with the theme Mary Mac-
Donald and Betty Johnson served a borsch
and rye bread for lunch.
