'ti19 KINCARDINE 396-2100 Holyrood W.I. meets The Holyrood Women's Institute held their Citizenship and Legislation meeting at the hall on Thursday afternoon. In the absence of the president due to a bereavement in their family, the Vice President Mrs. William MacPherson presented and extended a welcome to all. Following the Ode and the Mary Stewart Collect Mrs. Douglas McEwan read the. minutes of the December meeting, gave the financial statement and also read the communications which included a receipt for money sent to the Children's Hospital and many thank you notes for Cheerio boxes which they received at Christmas. A donation was made to the Women's House of Bruce County. Some information was read on the 4-H work. A few new items are to be purchased for the Institute room at the hall. It was decided to raise the price of the card parties and March will be the enter- taining month. The roll call was "An old time custom no longer in use". Money is to be sent to the Bruce County Historical Society. Mrs. Ellwood Elliott was the director and the topic was Legislation and Mrs. William MacPherson read "tokens of friendship" and information from pam- phlets on Agriculture, free trade and other current issues. Miss May Boyle gave the motto "Cheer- ful living makes for a happy home" and concluded with a poem on Cheerfulness and one from the Home and Country. Have a happy day. The singing of 0 Canada and the Grace closed the meeting and a delicious lunch By May Boyle and time of fellowship was enjoyed. Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Harold Smith in the death of his brother Douglas Smith of Cambridge. Doug grew up in the Holyrood area. Mrs. Harvey Cooper attended a workshop on Saturday at Windsor. We extend sympathy to Mrs. Howard Bennett of Richmond Hill in the death of her grandmother the late Mrs. Pearl McRae. Mr. and Mrs, Ron Cross enjoyed a holi- day to Mexico. Owing to the weekend storm the services in the village churches were cancelled. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Thompson and children and Mrs. Essie Bloomfield of Paisley visited with Mr. and Mrs. Tom McDonald. . Mr. Edbert Bushell is spending awhile at Ottawa with Mr. and Mrs. George Bushell, David and Janet. Mr. and Mrs. Rod Havens and children moved from our village on the weekend .to their new home in Lucknow. Mr. and Mrs. Morley Bushell of Wingham and Miss Margart Bushell of Goderich visited with Mrs. John Barr on Sunday last. Miss Janine Christensen returned home to Milton after visiting during the week with her -grandparents Pastor and Mrs. M. Christensen. The February meeting of Purple Grove Women's Institute met at the home of Fran Farrell on Wed. Feb. 3 at 1:30 p.m. with 24 members and 10 children present. Theroll call was 'answered by an Historical Fact about Huron Township, which proved in- teresting. All members' baby pictures were on display. The topic was given by Deanna Scott, an early history on the people and homes at Purple Grove. The Grove Bible Study group met on Tues- day at Marian 'Ga'mble's home. The members were delighted to have a former' neighbour, Edith Patterson of Kincardine as their special guest. She explained many things about Arabia, Lebanon and Egypt where she spent several years as a mis- sionary. Also visiting with Marion on Tues- day was Ruth Taylor of Kincardine, Donalda Pollard and Katherine Collins. Henry and Jackie' Pope of Paisley were guests of Ken and Brenda Bridge on Monday night. Bette MacLeod was happy to hear that her niece Sandy Millar has arrived safely'home early Thursday morning from her trip to Hong Kong.
