" As you take hold of the snow shovel you think of those guys on the snowplow that filled you in once again. If you should have an occasion to drive around any of the back streets in the ma- jority of the neighbouring towns in the area you can't help but be amazed. They are rough, icy, filled with ruts and potholes. You say to yourself, they should come to Lucknow and take a few lessons on how to look after their streets. We really do appreciate the efforts of the Lucknow Works Department for their faithful endeavours. So to Gary Austin and Doug Haldenby our hats are off to you for a job well done! Have you noticed that Jack Henderson isn't around shovelling the sidewalks anymore? Jack moved to Brucelea Haven in Walkerton around Christmas time and we wish him all, the best in his new surroundings. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Harman have opened up an archway between their two stores. The Cancer Treatment Clinic treated 511 patients from April, 1987 through January, 1988, with 455 hours of service given by clerical and hostess workers. It was also announced at the January meeting that the annual meeting of the Auxiliary will be held April 18, 1988. Miss Marilyn Irwin, head instructor of the Wingham and District Hospital Registered Nursing Assistant Training School, was the guest speaker for the meeting. Miss Irwin reviewed changes in nursing procedures and to the training school in recent years. Owen Sound O.P.P. report that sometime during the early morning hours of August 5th, 1987, an assorttizent of car stereo equipment was stolen from a vehi- cle, parked at a private residence, in the area of Lot 16, Con. A, Keppel Township. Person(s) responsible stole the following Alpine stereo components: cassette player model 7385, equalizer model 3330, two HQ amplifiers model 3533, and one model 3512 amplifier. Also taken were two base speakers, model 301. The value of the ar- ticles stolen was approximately $3,500. All the articles are identifiable by serial numbers. Persons s responsible have not been identified. Little Megan Trachsel four year old daughter of Outram Street was in Westminster Children's Hospital, London for tests and being fitted for new braces and splints and a new wheel hair. A memorial service was oi.l,i in Knox Presbyterian Church, Goderich, on Fri- day, Feb. 5 for Mr. Jack Pollock, a former merchant in Lucknow who had passed away earlier in the week. Congratulations to Mrs. Neil McCallum, a resident of Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home, who celebrated her 97th birthday on Sat., February 6th. Dorothy Brown, Havelock St. spent last week in Waterloo visiting with her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Graham, Devitt and two and a half year old Darryl. Jessie Johnston had her niece Marjorie Meldrum and her friend Sharon; from Detroit,' and her cousins Sally and Louise MacDonald from Windsor, to visit last week. The MacDonald sisters are well known in this area having been long time summer residents at their cottage. Miss Louise .MacDonald remained in Lucknow and looks forward to having her friends visit at her new address, Pinecrest Manor Nursng Home. Edward and .,ncy Brown took his Grade R class from Ripley on a skiing trip to ti Talisman Ski Resort at Kimberley on Fri. They travelled in Montgomery Motors new bus and reported an excellent day, not seeing any storm until they were nearly home. Austin and Mildred Loree tried out their skills at win r driving Sun., afternoon when they were turning from visiting their son Bill, and his family in Hanover. The Lucknow Division of the Hospital Auxiliary meet on the second Monday of each month during the winter in the Town Hall for an afternoon of Bridge. There are six tables of players that not only enjoy an afternoon out but all proceeds go towards the Hospital Auxiliary making it a wor- thwhile project. Sunday is Valentine's day, a special time to remember those we love. Don't be like the man standing beside his wife's grave that said, "I sure loved that woman, and once or twice I almost came close to telling her."
