The Lucknow Sentinel, 1988-02-03, Page 9Playoffs loom for B's Lucknow PeeWee B's The Lucknow PeeWee B team travelled to Walkerton for an early morning game on Saturday, January 23 with the Walker- ton Wyatts. The contest was evenly match- ed despite the wide range in size of the various players. Steven Porter and Keith Todd shared the goaltending duties for Lucknow in the game which ended in a three -all tie. Walkerton's Ben Plakholm opened the scoring at the half -way mark of the open- ing period. Lucknow played a solid game at both ends of the rink and eventually a goal came from the stick of Mark Bakker with an assist to Colin Humphrey. Tom Lucas scored with eight seconds re- mianing in the first to put Walkerton up by one going to the dressing room. The second period was hard fought and scoreless, Both teams had some good chances with both netminders having their share of activity. This period saw several penalties handed out for tripping, cross- checking and boarding as the play became intense. Early in the third period of play, Walker - ton's Rob Neil scored to make it 3 -1 for the home town team. As the pace of the game picked up, and stronger checks were hand- ed out, Scott Rintoul scored unassisted to bring Lucknow within one. With just over one minute to play in the game, Rintoul again found an opening and tied the game at three. Scott Nicholson earned the helper and Doug Helm gets an honourable mention for his work in front of the net. It was a good, entertaining game with Lucknow having several close shots on net and fine goaltending from Todd and Porter. Mildmay arrived,,in Lucknow last Satur- day afternoon for a game against the Lucknow PeeWee B team and took home a big win for their efforts. Mildmay made their presence known from the opening face-off and scored three unanswered goals by. the end of the first period. Lucknow played a much stronger second period and were able to hold the powerful Mildmay team off until the final 13 seconds of the period when Mike Ashbury was able to slip one by Lucknow's Steve Porter. Lucknow played a solid second period with tight defense and an offense that got a number of good shots at Mildmay goalie McDiarmid: By the end of the second, Mildmay was up by four. Lucknow's Tom Chilton scored unassisted at the half -way mark of the final period. This would prove to be the on- ly marker for Lucknow in the game as Mil - day responded with three more in the third to make the final score 7 -1 for the visitors. The play-off schedule is as of yet un- completed for the PeeWee 13 team, but fans can be assured of some close, hard fought games.come post -season play: Ladies Monday League Team Standings: Peacocks -66, Cockateels-65, Flamingos -54, Toucans -47, Parakeets -33, Parrots -29.
