Students hope for more snow
By Jennifer MacKinnon and
Marita MacDougall
Kindergarten
We had fun in. Kindergarten this week.
We were busy making our own books call-
ed "My Snowman Book". We enjoyed
sharing them with each other and with
Grades 1,2, and 3. We found sliding down
the hills great fun, especially if you have a
slippery snowsuit on. We hope it doesn't
rain for awhile so we can enjoy the snow
more often.
Grade One
Grade one and, Mrs. Bell had fun
discovering many things about our coun-
try, Canada, by using our big map. We
made a "hand and water" book. Today we
are watching a film called "Helicopter
Canada". We were really excited on
Wednesday when we met with our
"Reading Buddies" from Mr. Bennett's
Grade 5 class. They read us lots of good
stories. We took home "Our Very Own
Story Book" to read to our parents. We are
getting very good at sounding. Our
language centres are all about "Clifford
the Big Red Dog". This week "Special
Me's" have been Ronnie Van Meeteren
and Mandy Havens. We made puppets for
the story "Goodnight Owl" and dramatiz-
ed it for Grade 1/2. They thought we were
good!
Grade One/Two
As we continue our "Snow and Ice" unit,
we discussed this week how people
prepare for winter. We also listed the ad-
vantages of snow and then divided into
groups. Each group did a picture on chart
paper showing one advantage of winter.
We are all pleased that the cold snowy.
days returned on Thursday.
Grade Two/Three
Grade 2/3 have enjoyed their new books -
Child Craft and Science Encyclopedia that
they received for being such eager
readers. Many students are working hard
preparing their Public Speeches. Class
speeches will be given in early Feb.

Robins back at the lake
On the mild Monday afternoon on Monday
afternoon Jan. 18th a week ago, Grace Mit-
chell called to report the arrival of six
robins at their home down by the lake where
there are sheltering trees.
Ground Hog's Day
Feb. 2, 1988 is next Tuesday. We hope that
it will be sunny to get the sun out for all'
those named groundhogs so that they can
come out and see their shadow and get rid of
this snow. Named ones around are Wiarton
Willie in the north of the County. Here we
have Ripley O'Reilly. Then down at Toronto
at the Kortright Centre for Conservation
there is Gary Groundhog who had four
shadow sightings since 1980.
LCPS
Grade Four/Five
In reading we are reading the story
"Land of Ampersand". We are multiply-
ing by three digits in math. Today we had
spelling dictation and the -words were pret-
ty easy. We are studying about the world in
Environmental Studies. We just finished
reading "Charlie and the Great Glass
Elevator".
Grade Five
This week grade five has been busy on
fractions, everyone says they are easy. We
also have continued environmental studies
and are due very soon. Our SRA reading
lab is doing quite well also.
Grade Six/Seven
In math the grade 6/7 class is learning
area, perimeter, and volume. We are stu-
dying a new unit in science called
"Machines".

arts projects this week; a study of famous
Canadian women and for the grade 8's, a
super novel, Moonfleet. Our ski trip to
Talisman is now set and we are all keenly
awaiting Feb,, 3. We hope that the weather
will not let us down.

The Grade 8 class is wrapping up their
novel studies on "The King's Daughter" •
and "I am David". Many of our
classmates are participating in the
volleyball tournament on January 28. Our
