The new executive is President, Heather Klopp, Ztir Vice President, Stephen Park, God-ericIN Secretary, Jackie Postill, Exeter; Treasurer, Fran McQuail, Lucknow; Membership Secretary, Tony McQuail, Lucknow; Members at Large, Agnes & Larry Proulx, Ethel; Chris Grande, Goderich; Ben Barnes, Brussels. A lively discussion on Free Trade follow- ed the election of officers. In his report from the Provincial Council Tony McQuail pointed out "family farmers and Canadian workers will be played against illegal Mex- ican workers in the United States. These exploited workers are paid terrible wages with lousy working conditions. Ten years ago the banks told us we had to pay the high interest rates they were charging third world countries. With Free Trade farmers and workers will be told we have to accept Mexican wages if we want to keep working." McQuail went on to say that "it is a lousy agreement that doesn't secure access to the US market. It gives away the energy security we supposedly bought and cer- tainly paid for with high energy prices. It threatens our economic independence, our cultural identity and the future that we as working people and family farmers want to build for ourselves and our children." A petition calling for an election on Free Trade was circulated and copies distributed to members at the meeting. The new executive approved plans to meet in various parts of Huron County during the coming year.
