Ripley tourney results
Thanks to secretary Terry Paquette 01 the
Ripley Legion for this summary of the
results of the Legion Zone Pee Wee hockey
tournament held at Ripley on Jan 9. Game 1
- Lucknow over Ripley 4-1. Game 2 - Clinton
and Kincardine played to a two -two tie after
'regulation play and ,no scoring after 5
minutes overtime, but Clinton scored 2 goals
in the five man shoot-out. Game 3 - Goderich
over Exeter 3 to 1. Game 4 - Wingham over
Brussels 3 to 1. Game 5 - Lucknow over
Seaforth 5 to 4 after five minutes sudden
death overtime. Game 6 - Clinton over
Goderich 2 to 1.
For the Championship Wingham
eliminated Lucknow with a 3 to 1 victory.
Going to Mount Forest for the Legion
District Pee Wee tournament will be
Goderich, Clinton, and Wingham. The
Ripley and District thanks all teams that
participated in the tournament.
January W.M.S. meeting
The January meeting of Ripley Knox
afternoon W.M.S. was held at the Villa. with
Mrs. Jack Brown as hostess.
President Mrs. Hackett opened the
meeting with a Recipe for a Good New Year.
The hymn, At Thy Feet, our God and
Father, was sung followed by prayer. They
were reminded of the Maitland Presbyterial
to be held in Wingham on Jan. 18 weather

permitting. Alternate date Jan. 25. The roll
call, a verse on forgiveness, was answered
by 10 members and one visitor.
Hazel MacDonald had the meditations us-
ing the January Glad Tidings Fulfilling our
ministry. Our challenge is to accept our
commission and go forth to do God's will,
whatever it be.
Mary Brown read a clipping from a local
paper where the speaker compared people
to flowers. Some are like real flowers,
others like the plastic ones. Gladys Huston
read an article by Eileen Parish, former
President of Hamilton, London Synodical
looking forward to .1988. We start with a
clean sheet. What's in store for us this year,
she said.
Some plans were made for the spring
Thank offering meeting on March 13. It was
suggested they ask Mrs. Don Craig to be
guest speaker.
After the singing of "Standing at the Por-
tal" the meeting closed. Mrs. Bette
MacLeod and Mrs. Mary Brown served a
tasty lunch and a social time was spent.
Salute to the bard
The Lucknow Town & Country Club met
in the Legion Hall January 11 with Presi-
dent Joan Robinson in the chair, the
meeting opened with the .Singing of 0'
Canada followed with the Club's theme
song.
The program honouring Robbie Burns
was chaired by Susan MacNaughton who
with her committee of Grace. Campbell
took charge of the program.
The Scottish Dancers were introduced
and favoured with several dances
throughout the afternoon - Isobel Shepherd
.leader of the group. Some dance numbers
were Waltz Country, Gay Gordons,
Shotishche delighted the audience.
Everyone joined in a sing -a -long with
Isobel Shepherd on the piano singing - Blue
Bells of Scotland, Amazing Grace, Annie
Louise, Lock Lomond old Scottish songs.

The Bonnie Aryshire - A reading Today's
Senior Citizen by Betty O'Donnell were
both enjoyed. Harry Lavis played several
Selections on the Mouth Organ.
Susan MacNaughton said there are
11,000 Burns Clubs - Memories of the great
Scotsman Robbie Burns have never been
forgotten. Business, Minutes and Roll Call
followed. 1988 officers are - President,
Joan Robinson, 1st Vice - Wm. Henderson,
2nd Vice - Vera Schmidt, Secretary, Mary
Lavis, Treasurer, Tena Gardner. The
Town and Country Club are an organized
group affiliated with U.S.C.O. - Toronto.
Memberships are now due.
The Holyrood Women's Institute first
card party was held at thehall on Monday
evening, a pleasant sociable time was en-
joyed with ladies prizes going to Mrs. Leo
Murray and Mrs. Elizabeth Fair, and the
gents prizes went to Leo Murray and
William MacPherson.
Mrs. Harvey Cooper was hostess for the
January meeting of the Anglican Church
Women on Thursday afternoon, Mrs. Roy
Collins president was in charge welcoming

everyone and opening with a poem. The
hymn "Make me a Channel of your peace"
was sung. The president read "The Golden
Rule" for the first meeting of the new
year, also the scripture reading followed
by prayer. Each member answered the
roll call. Mrs. Ronald Thacker read the
minutes and gave the financial statement -
and thank you letters were read from St.
Monica House for a cash donation at
Christmas, and also from the Western
Bales. All were much appreciated. The
New Year's Meditation was given by May
Boyle, followed with a prayer.
The hostess accompanied at the organ
fora nice hymn sing. The remainder of the
afternoon was spent in making the 1988
program and prayer closed the meeting.
Miss Edna Boyle invited the ladies to her
home for the February meeting. Grace
was sung and the Courtesies given before
refreshments were served.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. David
Wiley (nee Mary Eadie) on the arrival of
their little son.
Mrs. Don Bushell and Dawn of Silver
Lake visited with Mr. and Mrs. Tom
McDonald.
Mrs. Hugh Janson and a friend Cathy
Genais from Cochrane are visiting with
Mr. and Mrs. Alex Percy and Mr. and Mrs.
Glen Haldenby and family.
Ladies from the Maitland Presbyterian
WMS attended the Presbyterial at
Wingham on Monday at the St. Andrew's
Church.
Mrs. Frank Moulden returned home
from visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Arthur
Phillips at Fonthill and Mr. and Mrs.
Douglas Palmer and family at Welland.

Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce arae seek-
ing public assistance in regards to a theft
which occurred in Hanover.
Hanover Police report that at approx-
imately 13:24 p.m. on October 17th, 1987, a
male individual, approximately 6 ft. lin.,
220 lbs, ..clean cut with receding brown
hair, entered the Mac's Milk Store on
7th Avenue, in Hanover. The male rented a
funa 3 speed automatic VCR, and two
movies. The male produced indentification
in the name of Henry WHITE.. The VCR
and movies were never returned. The in-
dentification are believed to be false.
Value of articles stolen is approximately
$500.00. Other Police Forces have reported
the same •individual has committed
similar thefts in the Goderich and Exeter
areas, over the past few months. In-
dividual may possibly still be in the Grey
Bruce area committing other offences.
