Lancers win and lose
in weekend action
Lucknow Intermediates
The Lucknow Lancers travelled to Kin-
cardine last week for their final meeting of
the season with the rival Kings but came
away with a dissappointing 7 - 5 loss.
The line of Art Clark, Allan Eadie and
Wayne Phillips .lead the way for the .,-
Lancers as the threesome combined fora
total of 10 points in the losing effort.
The Kings took a 2 - 0 lead into the second
period before Steve MacPherson caught
the Kings sleeping and scored a shorthand-
ed
horthanded goal. The Kings got that one back quick-
ly but the Lancers tied the score at three as
both Dave Gibson and Art Clark scored for
Lucknow.
The Kings took advantage of some slop-
py play around the net and scored twice to
maintain the two goal lead heading into the
third period.
Each team scored twice in the final
frame giving the Kings the victory. Art
Clark and Don Elliott rounded out the
Lancers scoring efforts.
The Lancers bounced back on Sunday as
they hosted Durham.. and came out of the
contest on the winning side of a 9 - 6
shootout. Hard hitting was the name of -the
game as both teams dished out solid
checks.
Durham opened the scoring early iri the
first period but the Lancers bounced back
with three goals of their own to take a 3 -1
lead into the dressing room. Steve Allan,
Don Elliott and Steve Simpson scored for
the Lancers.
,The Lancers jumped to a 5 - 1 lead in the
middle period as Simpson got his second
with Grant Gilchrist added another.
Durham again found the mark first to
close the gap as the third period got under-
way but Wayne Phillips of the Lancers
took a break from running into everything
that moved to again give the Lucknow
boys a three goal margin.
Steve Allan made it 7 - 3 moments later
with his second on the night but Durham,
just wouldn't give up and the lead was cut
to three once again. Steve Simpson netted
his hat trick soon after and "Offside Art"
found himself in front of the net with the •
puck„ and was able to beat the Durham
goalie to make the final score 9 - 6 in favor
of the locals:
Ray Guay played a strong game in the
Lancer's goal as the team improved their -
record to 5 wins, 9 losses and a single tie.
The Lancers will travel to Teeswater
this Friday and then have a rare Sunday
off.
Pee Wees stopped in
game two of tourney.
Lucknow PeeWee A's
The Lucknow PeeWee A's took one loss
and one win in the Paisley Tournament
held over the weekend. The team started
out gung-ho against Lion's Head by putting
14 goals+tfehind the netminder of the op-
position. Adam Skillen notched a shut -out
in the game as Lion's Head just couldn't
find the mark all night.
Clint Murray's usual hard work produc-
ed the' first goal for Lucknow with assists
to Darryl Gibson and Matt Sproul.
Donnie Cuilliere- positioned himself on
the blueline and blasted a shot past the
unexpecting goalie for Lucknow's second
goal. Warren Andrew netted the third after
Chris Stevenson put it on his stick. The se-
cond assist went to Brad Rhody..
Cuilliere got his second on the night with
a shot from the point assisted by Andrews
and Stevenson. The fifth goal came from
Chris Humphrey after a nice passing play
from Vince Sticklend and Justin Murray.
Murray struck for the sixt y on a
good play from Duane Pi er and the
seventh came when S : . on took a pass
from defenseman T nley, stepped
inside the blueline an' • ged the mesh.
Gibson used a harp shot to find the
eighth with assists to Duane Porter and
Clint Murray. Murray and Stevenson pick-
ed up helpers on the ninth goal which came
from the stick of Warren Andrews.
Justin Murray got his own rebound over
to Sticklend who netted the tenth. Chris
Humphrey also found an assist on that one.
Stevenson scored again after a nice
passing play from linemates Andrew,and
Stanley and Gibson got his second on the
night with assists to Clint Murray and
Duane Porter.
Stevenson's hat -trick came at the 3:34
mark of the final period as another fine
passing play from Warren Andrew and
Rob Crich came together.
Lucknow's final goal came when Terry
Stanley carried the puck in and put it onto
Matt Sproul's stick. Sproul made no
mistake and the game ended at 14 - 0.
The next game in the tourney saw
Lucknow fall to a 5 - 3 defeat at the hands
of Shallow Lake. Chris Stevenson started
off the scoring after a lot of hard work in-
side the blueline by Warren Andrew.
Vince Sticklend scored the second
assisted by Humphrey and Porter and
Justin Murray netted the third unassisted
with Lucknow shorthanded by two men.
It was a difficult game for Lucknow as
they had to play much of it from the penal-
ty box. The team gave it their best shot and
ended the day having played two good
games of hockey. Fans can expect more
good hockey from this team as the season
winds down.
