The Happy Hearts held their first meeting
of the New Year on Jan. 8 in the Ripley
Legion Hall. They had the opening exer-

of Christena Robertson followed by prayer
by president Florence Kirkpatrick.
With Bill Collins as leader and Marion
Gamble at the piano they had a sing song,
followed by the new Secretary, Donalda
Pollard, reading the minutes which were ap-
proved as read by Anne McCosh and Marg
Scott. Freda Collins gave a favourable
financial report, and it was moved by •
Marion, seconded by Annie. Scott that the
auditors report by Norval Pollock be
adopted.
The sick onunittee had nothing had
nothing to ort and Marion advertised the
dance for Jan. As the euchre committee
of Norval and rg Pollock and Jack and
Mary Scott resigned, Bill and Freda Collins,
Eileen Carter and Sadie MacLeod are tak-
ing their places.
Retiring Sec., Reta Irwin, was called to
the front and Florence presented her with a
gift for four years as a faithful secretary.
Program was organized by Anne McCosh
and Marie Coiling who mentioned hearing
Bill Collins wishing everyone a Happy New
Year on radio. Kay Collins had a reading
followed by Jack Scott with a reading on
when "The women folk go away", as well as
some jokes. Marie conducted a scrambled
word contest with Bette MacLeod, Connie
Van der Hoek, Kay Collins as winners.
Gladys Arnold had on tape a Social after-
noon held in 1972 for members then over 80
years of age. The entertainment was a
monologue by Myrtle MacLean, solo Bertha
Scott, and music on Violin and mouth-oifgan
by her late husband Bill Arnold.
A reading by Anne and a poem by Marie
closed a lovely program. Florence brought
