The referees were kept busy, but called a fair and even game. Although the game was rough, there were no major alterca- tions or evidence of "goonery'. After two loses and one win against Ripley this year, Lucknow skated to a 6 - 2 win behind the strong goaltending of Paul Helm. Helm shone in the second. period particularly when he kicked out a number of excellent shots from the Ripley forwards. Lucknow got off to a quick start in the game when defenseman Russel Sutton let go a point -shot which was intercepted by Rod Crich. Crich was able' to flip the puck to Donnie Gammie who made no mistake on the open side. The home team went up by two when Steve Rintoul won the race for the puck in the Ripley end and batted it past Art Houghton. Late in the period, Gammie set up Crich from behind the net for Lucknow's third marker. Lucknow's fourth goal came on a superb blast of Rod Crcih's stick that forced its way between the goalies pads to make it over the line. Defenseman Gavin Hunter picked up his team's fifth goal when he stole the puck at centre ice and had . a clear run at the goalie. Ripley was finally able to beat Helm - when the defense were caught up ice on a line change after playing two men short. A Ripley forward was left unmolested in - front of the net and banged it in past the Lucknow netminder. Gammie was back for Lucknow's sixth and final goal when he worked his way in front and beat Houghton again. A special note of congratulations this week to Peter Reavie who scored his first Bantam goal during the Silverstick Tour- nament against the Kincardine B's. Peter has been showing good hustle this season and was finally rewarded for his efforts. Harriston, gingham fall to Lucknow Lucknow Novice The Lucknow Novice team travelled by bus to Harriston on January 8 for an even- ing game of hockey. It was only the second meeting this season between the two teams. Lucknow's Jay Humphrey was the first man to light up the scoreboard on a pass from Ben Brophy. Harriston's Herbst scored two unassisted goals back to back to allow his team to take a one goal lead into the dress- ing room after one period of play. The seond period was an intense scene of end to end plays. Stuart Rintoul finally scored from Michael Puddy to end the middle frame at 2 - 2. Coaches Gerry and Steve .gave their team a boost between periods and they came out strong in the third to score.four consecutive goals. Scoring points were earned by Michael Puddy with two, Jeff Porter and Ben Brophy. Assists went to Trevor Moffat with two, Luke Sproul, Lee Drennan and Stuart Rintoul. Harriston's Nigel Brown scored in the third to keep it close but Lucknow's Michael Puddy replied quickly to earn himself the hat -trick. Ian Paolin took the assist. Curt Humphrey and Graeme Hunter both made key saves in the net for Lucknow. This was a very close On d Lucknow proved they could skate and han- dle the pressure applied by a strong Har- riston team. Well done, boys! Last Sunday, January 10, the Lucknow Novice team travelled to Wingham for a game with the Nuggets. This game saw an improved Wingham team come out with a strong defense anti solid netminding from Scott Allen. Lucknow, as well, turned in a solid defensive effort and passed the puck well while on the offensive The tear: showed they can dig around the net. Graeme Hunter and Curt Humphrey shared the goaltending duties for Lucknow. Scoring for Lucknow in the first period was Trevor Moffat from Lee Drennan and Ian Paolin from Trveor Moffat. In the iPcond period, Colin BeckeP found the mark, assisted by Brent Cameron. Michael Puddy also found the net after lots of hard work in front. Wingham's David Laing finally broke away to be, ' Graeme Hunter on a well ex- ecuted rr that left the Lucknow goalie handcuffed. The third period saw the score jump to 8 for Lucknow despite the good goaltending by Allen. Scoring for Lucknow was Trevor Moffat, unassisted while the duo of Glen ,# Ferguson and Colin Becker produced two more goals. Micheal Puddy ended the scoring with an assist to Trevor Moffat. Lucknow had many chances in the third period but were stopped time and time again by the Nugget's Allen. Wingham has certainly improved since these two teams last met, but seemed to tire in the third .period. The final score was Lucknow 8, Wingham 1. This was the first game back for Glen Ferguson who has been out of the line-up with an injury.
