Longtime Ripley resident remembered
The funeral service for Miss Margaret
Christena Robertson was conducted at 2:00
p•r'i.,
Saturday, January 9, 1988 in the
MacKenzie McCreath Funeral Home,
Ripley with Rev. Glen Macpherson of St.
Andrew's United Church, Ripley officiating.
She was born on Wednesday, May 8, 1907
in Ripley with father John W. Robertson and
mother Mary MacDonald. In their family
there were six daughters - Christena,
Elvira, Mildred, Emma, Martha, and
Donalda. Two are still alive, lliIrs. Elvira
Mewhinney, 647 Victoria, .Port Elgin, and
Martha or Mrs. Wilson Ford of Coburg who
is hospitalized in Kingston for care of
Alzheimer disease. All six sisters started
their education at the old Ripley public
school then moved to the Ripley Continua -

tion School built by their father John - the
master builder.
Christena was one of those who made the
move to the R.C.S. in Sept. '23 - as did
neighbour girls Margaret McLay (Mrs.
Floyd Stradee in Toronto now) and Edna
McLay (Aitchson) . At this time it was
necessary to increase the staff to three
teachers.
Niece Marilyn Ford extends sincere
thanks to all those who thought of them after
the untimely passing of aunt Christena
Robertson this past week.

Funeral service on Saturday
The funeral service for George Nelson
Hodgins of Ripley was conducted at 3:30
p.m. last Saturday, January 9, 1988 at 3:30
p.m. at the MacKenzie and McCreath
•Funeral• Home m Ripley with Rev. Mrs.
Merelyn Letson of St. Paul's Anglican
Church officiating. 'Cremation to follow.
Honorary pallbearers were Don McLay,
Howard Harrison, John D. MacKay, Doug
Moore, Bob Love, and Wayne Nixon.
Nelson was born in Kincardine on Satur-
day, Nov. 22, 1919. His parents were George
A. Hodgins and Rose Jackson. Nelson is sur-
vived by his wife Irma Dixon, three
daughters - Lynda - ` Mrs. Wayne Benson,
Komoka, Kerry - Mrs. Wallace Houston,
Aylmer, Mavis Stokes, Wingham, one son -
Joe and his wife Janice Wylds of Ripley St.
in Ripley, also seven grandchildren, two
sisters - Eleanor SeNnour, Bruce Township,
Clara Webster, Lucknow.
Nelson grew up, in Ripley where he attend-
ed Ripley public school and Ripley Con-
tinuation School. Nelson and his wife Irma
were in the Armed Forces in the second war
and then in the Legion.
Nelson entered Kincardine and District
Hospital on December 24, 1987 - and remain-
ed in care there up to his passing on Thurs-
day afternoon, January 7, 1988. His work
and interest in the Ripley community was
shown in the memorial donations to the
Ripley minor sports or to the Heart and
Stroke Foundation of Ontario made at the
Funeral Home.
Happy Hearts Euchre Party
At the Legion Hall on Monday last, six
tables of euchre were playing, and the prize
winners were Donalda Pollard, Christena
Herman ib
Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Hedley, Debbie
and Karen of here, Mr. and Mrs. Kevin
Howey, and Kristin and Paddy Hedley of
Kitchener, Mr. and Mrs. John Visser,
Tracey, Tim, Becky and Christopher of
Con. 10 and Mr. and Mrs. Gary Hedley of
Teeswater were New Year's guests of Mr.
and Mrs. Mervyn Hedley at Walkerton.
Mr. and Mrs. George Bushell, David and
Janet of Ottawa were here for his mother's
funeral. George stayed until Sunday, but
Joanne and family left for home on Thurs-
day evening. Miss Anne Fraser and Mr.
Douglas McLeod came from Kitchener,
also ' many relatives, neighbours and
friends attended the funeral of (Dunedin)
Mrs. Edbert Bushell at Kincardine on
Thursday. She had suffered a stroke
almost 15 years ago and was confined to a
wheelchair. Edbert Was so patient and
kind and she enjoyed company and a chat
on the phone. Tom McDonald of our village
is a brother and Mrs. Mary Stewart at
Milarton, a sister. Following the service
Robertson, Harvie Thompson and Duncan
Thorburn. The next euchre will be held on
Jan. 18 at 2 p.m.
Legion Pork draw
Winners of the Ripley Legion Pork draw
were Sheila MacDonald, Don Thompson of
Ripley, Matt Yemen of Etobicoke and Amy
Price of Tillsonburg.
Christmas guests
Christmas Day guests with Keith, Isabelle
and Larry Carter were Jack and Eileen
Carter; Eva and Carl Wilken; Harold, Lyn-
da, Darron and Darcy Maurer; Paul and
Allison Wilken and family; Dan Wilken and
Kay Walden.
The following Sunday they had Sadie
McLeod of Ripley; Eugene, Eugene, Melva
and Ken McLeod of Armow; Doug McLeod
and Ann Fraser; Cheryl and Andy Wallace;
Sharon, Ken, Stacy and Dawn Marie Met-
calf . and friend from Kitchener; Helen,
Dave, Mark and Joe Myers and friend from
New Hamburg; Ken, Cathy, Deana and
Kevin Leddy from St.'Augustine; Ross and
Betty Irvine and family of Atwood; Dorothy
Howald and Les Brown from Victoria, B.C.;
Susan and Mark Miszturak and Brett of
Ajax; and Chris Ehret from Baden.
Saw flock of geese
On Wednesday evening, Dec. 30 - 87, Gor-
don Roulston just after completing his barn
chores was headed to the house when he
heard the honking of a large flock of wild
geese. Looking up into the sky there was a
very big flock, maybe 75 to 100 in a V forma-
tion headed south - no doubt they felt , the
coming snow.

folks returned to the Kinlough
Presbyterian Church basement where the
W.M.S.' ladies served a luncheon and
friends could meet with the bereaved fami-
ly. Our sympathy is extended at this time.
We are pleased to know that Mr. Her-
man Lanting spent the weekend at home
here from St. Marys Hospital in London
with his new artificial limb and a walker.
A very nice Benefit Social evening and
dance was held at the Holyrood Hall on
Saturday evening for Mr. and Mrs: Bob
Theriault and the girls who had their home
(the former Kinlough School) damaged
when a fire outbreak threatened their
home and much smoke and water damage
ruined the interior. We wish them well in
getting it repaired.
Happy birthday to Jim
Mr. and Mrs. Ron McGuire, Chris and
Scott,, spent Christmas Day with Mr. and
Mrs. Bill Reeves and Susartof Ripley. Also
with the Reeves over Christmas were Mr.
and Mrs. Mark Burgess and boys of
Ripley; Larry Reeves, Louise and girls of
Kincardine; Mrs. Helen Cooper of Toron-
to; and Mrs Pearl Rolston of Paisley.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack McGuire and Brian
along with Mr. and Mrs. Mike Moskal and
Adon of Caledonia enjoyed supper with
Mr. and Mrs. Ron McGuire and boys on
Boxing Day.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Black and girls of the
4th Concession and Mrs. Mary Black of
Lucknow spent Christmas with Mr. and
Mrs. Bill Balck and Meagan of London.
Jim and Kathy and girls stayed in London
a few days and visited there with relatives.
Spending Christmas with Mrs. Dorothy
Engel and Rob of Lurgan Beach were
Marilyn Engel and daughter Devin of
Toronto; janet Casler and children of the
2nd Concession; Don Casler and friend,
MOe, of Wind§or and Janice Murray of
Seaforth.
Mr. Andrew Hamilton spent Christmas
with Mr. and Mrs. Perrin Lowry and fami-
ly of the 4th Concession in Huron

Mr. and Mrs. Jack McGuire and Brian
enjoyed supper with Mr. and Mrs. Jim
Black and girls on New Year's Eve. The
occasion also marked Jim's birthday.

An error appeared in last week's edition
of the Lucknow Sentinel with regards •to
the visitors with Ida Howald.
While Emerson Howald did, in fact, visit
with Mrs. Howald, the other names men-
tioned did not visit. Joe, Ila, Rick and
Rosella actually phoned Mrs. Howald to
extend their best wishes of the season.
Sympathy is extendeo to Yvonne Rider
and family on the death of Sandy.
Dawna and Gary Richardson of RR7
Lucknow have moved to Kitchener. The
community is sorry to see them go, but at
the sarne time wishes the Richardsons con-
tinued success in their new home.
