HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1988-01-06, Page 15Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday, January 6, 1988—Page 15 Holiday season brings visits from friends Visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Tom McDonald were Mr. and Mrs. Gordon McDonald and boys, Mr. and Mrs. Steven Carter and children, all of Orangeville; Mr. Elvon Thompson of Walton and his mother Mrs. Bert Thompson; Mr. and Mrs. Mac. McDonald and Jeffrey of Kincardine. Sympathy is extended to the family of Mrs. Spence ( Fanny) McFarlan. Her son Elmer and Rose Stanley and family were former residents of our village. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Page and girls of Burlington visited with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Page and Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Page. It was nice on Wednesday evening to have the carollers come to sing the lovely age-old Christmas carols. We all enjoy hearing them and also singing them. Thanks everyone. Mrs. Essie Bloomfield of Paisley and Mn. and Mrs. Tom McDonald had Christmas dinner with their father Joseph Guest at Brucelea Haven, Walkerton. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Burt returned home after attending the wedding of their niece, Laurie Carignan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lou Carignan ( nee Norma Burt 1, to Andre Mousseau in Gatineau, Quebec on Saturday, December 19th. And while there they had the opportunity to tour Ottawa and saw the gorgeous Christmas lighting and especially were delighted to view the Parliament Buildings and Sussex Drive all in festive colours. Norma and Lou live at Cobourg and wish to be remembered to relatives and friends here. Mr. Donald Barr of Waterloo and his mother Mrs. John Barr of here had Christmas on Boxing Day with Mr.. and Mrs. Morley Bushell at Wingham. Pastor and Mrs. M. Christensen spent Christmas in Toronto. On Boxing Day at the supper hour the Lucknow Fire Department was called to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Theriault at Kinloygh, where a chimney fire had got- ten out of control. Considerable smoke and water damage was done. Fortunately there wasn't any wind. By May Boyle Mr. and Mrs. Bob Brooks and family of Listowel, Mr. and Mrs. I on Bertrand and family of Simcbe, i� 's. John Barr and Donald had Christma with Winnifred, Bill and Brian Percy. Mrs. Elizabeth Fair, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Scott of Ripley were with Edna and May Boyle for Christmas. Mr. Herman Lanting was home here with his family for Christmas and over the weekend but returned on Monday to St. Mary's Hospital, London. Christmas visitors on Boxing Day with Mr. and Mrs. John Ferguson, Rona and Tracey of London were Mr. and Mrs. Steve Bell of Sarnia, Mr. and Mrs. Berwick Bell and Heather of Kincardine, Mrs. Kay Thacker, Mr. and Mrs. Eric 'Thacker, Tara, Lucas and Alicia of South Line. Bon- nie Ferguson and Lynda Thacker are sisters. Mrs. Agnes Hodgins had for Christmas Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hodgins and family. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Cooper of Lucknow spent Christmas with Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Cooper, Rob and Bill at Holyrood. Mrs. Ronald Thacker, South Line, had Mrs. Cora MacDonald of Lucknow,. Mr. and Mrs. Ken MacDonald of Kincardine, Mr. and Mrs. Eric Thacker, Tara, Lucas and Alicia for Christmas dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Page had Christmas at St. Helens with Mr. and Mrs. John Siecker: Mr. and Mrs. Ron Gillespie held a family gathering on Christmas for relatives and friends. Visitors on Christmas with Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Stanley and Terry were Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Kaake and Cindy and friend, Mrs. Ezra Stanley, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Howald, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Stanley and family, Arthur and friend, and Cathy and her friend. Christmas visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Parishioners entertained On Dec. 13, several young people from the community participated in the Blue Water Strings Violin Recital held at North Street United Church in Goderich. Con- gratulations and continued success in their musical pursuits to Bridget and Natalie Hogan, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Hogan; Lisa Dykstra, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Dykstra; Elizabeth Dalton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Dalton; and Benedict and Joannes Ritgen, son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Werner Ritgen. In the several weeks preceding Christmas, Father Ed Dentinger and several parishioneAk entertained at various local retirement and nursing homes. On Dec. 23 they were in Lucknow where they sang Christmas songs, gave readings and poems and Father Ed led in prayers and scripture readings. Bob and Dorothy Farrish's Country Road Lodge was the scene for entertainment on Dec. 9 while Dec. 21 saw a program of singing at Maitland Manor in Goderich. The Midnight Liturgy of the Eucharist vas beautifully enhanced Christmas Eve with the participation of St. Joseph's Parish Choir, under the direction of Marianne Hogan with organist Denise Dalton, who presented a 20 minute pro- gram of Christmas hymns before Mass as well as the singing of'the Mass and Proces- sional, Offertory, Communion and Reces- sional hymns. The church was filled to near capacity. The choir also performed at the Mass on Christmas Day, the New Year's Eve Mass and the Sunday Mass, Jan. 3. New Year's Day many parishioners en- joyed free skating at the Lucknow Arena from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. Joining in the fun were parishioners from St. Mary's Lucknow, St. Augustine as well as St. Joseph's Kingsbridge. New Year's Day was also the First Fri- day of the month with a Holy Hour in- cluding the Sacrifice of the Mass at 8:00 p.m. preceded by the recitation of the KINGSBRIDGE • arish/School By Louise Martin Rosary. After a fun -filled holiday, the school children resumed their second term of classes on Monday, Jan. 4. Edbert Bushell were Mrs. Kathryn Fraser, Edwin and Janice of Arnow, Miss Anne Fraser and Mr. Douglas McLeod of Kitchener, Mr. and Mrs. George Bushell, David and Janet of Ottawa. Mr. Arthur Haldenby was with his fami- ly at Toronto for Christmas and over the holiday and returned home on Tuesday. Mr. John Lane of Port Elgin spent Box- ing Day with Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Lane and family. Mr. and Mrs. Todd Park and boys en- joyed a holiday with relatives at Lansing, Michigan. Mrs. Alex Percy returned home from Wingham Hospital after undergoing major surgery. We send our get well wishes Myrtle. Mr. and Mrs. David Linde of Shallow Lake visited with Mr. and Mrs. Tom McDonald on Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Blair Christensen of Mon- treal, Mr. and Mrs. Don Christensen and daughter Janine of Milton spent Sunday with Pastor and Mrs. M. Christensen. Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Orval Wilson in the death of his mother Mrs. Ethel Kidd after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Ron Gillespie is a granddaughter. Mr. and Mrs. Kurt Nielsen, Matthew and Daniel of Bracebridge, Mr. and Mrs. Glen - Morningstar, Lindsay and Andrew of Port Elgin, Mr. and Mrs. Brian Thompson, Brett, Allyson and Robyn of Kincardine Twp., Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Bushell, Rachel and Whitney spent Christmas with Mr. and Mrs. Don Bushell. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Carter and grand- child of Wingham visited with Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Hedley. Mr. and Mrs. Don Haldenby, Sally and Lisa of Toronto visited at Christmas with Mrs. Bertha Haldenby and family. Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Hedley had their family all home for Christmas. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Whiteside of Toronto and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Ben- nett, Richmond Hill, visited with Mr. Ar- thur Haldenby before Howard Bennett leaves for Japan where he goes on a business trip for his company. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Bushell and girls and Mr. and Mrs. Don Bushell had New Year's with Mr. and Mrs. Glen Morn- ingstar at Port Elgin. The Meyerscough family entertained. relatives and friends on New Year's. Those present were Mrs. Gertrude Walsh, Mr. and Mrs. Miller Hartwick and his sister Mildred of Kincardine, Mr. and Mrs. Scott Walsh, Debbie and John of Millarton and Edna and May Boyle. Traverse Brace .returned to London after a holiday with his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Rhody. Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Tom McDonald were Mr. and Mrs. Gordon McDonald of Orangeville and Mr. and Mrs. Bert Thompson of Teeswater. Mr. and Mrs. Morley Bushell of Wingham visited on Sunday with Mrs. John Barr. Sympathy is extended to Mr. Edbert Bushell and family on the sudden passing of a dear wife and mother Dunedin at Kin- cardine and District Hospital on Sunday evening, Jan. 3rd: . Mr. and Mrs. Bill MacPherson, Holyrood; visited on Sunday with Mrs. Cora Thompson, Kincardine. Mr, Jim Stevens of Listowel and Mr. and Mrs. Dean Wilson of Stoney Creek spent the holidays with Mr. and Mrs. Bill MacPherson. Farm -Start FARM START MEETING Ontario Farm -Start is the name of a new program announced by the.Ontario Government to help new beginning farmers become established on sound financial footing. The program is designed for beginning farmers who have not farm- ed before and intend to become a bona fide farmer on or after January 1st, 1988. Quali- fying new farmers will be paid a flat rate grant of $11,000 at the end of the first year and a declining grant amount each year thereafter for a total over seven years of $38,000. Applications and details of the pro- gram will be available shortly from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food office. Interested persons are invited to at- tend a meeting on Monday, January llth, starting at 8 p.m. at the Clinton Town Hall. Staff from the Clinton O.M.A.F. office and the manager of the program' will be on hand to answer questions.
