LucknQw Peewees play in
Silverstick championship
PeeWee A's
The Lucknow PeeWee A's.nearly pulled
off an upset last week at the Silverstick
Tournament held in Kincardine. Lucknow
had defeated 5 teams in a row to put
themselves in contention for the Cham-
pionship game against Hanover.
Their first game against Elmira ended
in a 4 - 0 total. Ripley went down to defeat 3
- 0 while Zurich managed two goals but
still lost 4 - 2. Lucknow trounced Wingham
7 - 0 and downed Clinton 2 - 0.
There was lots of hard work and great
goals from the team in the first five rounds
of the tourney and, needless to say, some
exceptional goaltending from Adam
Skillen and Joel Sutton. The net minding
duties were shared in the Zurich contest
while Skillen had three shut -outs and Sut-
ton one.
In the final game of the Silverstick Tour-
nament, and what a heartbreaker it was,
Hanover eliminated Lucknow in a ten
minute overtime period.
While Lucknow was ahead 5 -1 after two
periods of play, Hanover got fired up and
came out in the third to tie the game and
force overtime.
With the Lucknow boys rapidly running
out of steam, 1- anover managed three
overtime goals to capture the title.
Hanover now goes on to Port Huron to
play against teams from south of the
border and from other parts of Canada.
Congratulations to our Lucknow
PeeWees for their great showing at the
,Silverstick. We'll get them next year!
The large number of games played last
week by the PeeWees much have simply
been too much hockey for the boys as
Lucknow was defeated in another tourney
held in Palmerston.
Lucknow started out well by defeating
Harriston 6 -1 but came up against a tough
Arthur team in the next round. Arthur pro-
ved to be just too much for Lucknow as
they won 4 - 2.
The Lucknbw team will take a well
deserved break this week and will skate in
the Ripley Tournament on Saturday.
Christmas wish comes
true for Lancers
Lucknow Intermediates
The Lucknow Lancers had their
Christmas wish come true this year as
Santa left a stocking full of players just in
time for the busy holiday schedule. Topp-
ing the list was a good solid defenceman
and Santa dug deep to find none other than
Don Elliott, batteries included.
Second on the wish list for the team was
a speedy winger and Santa provided them
with Larry MacPherson.
The Teeswater Falcons, were the first to
challenge the new squad and while visions
of sugar plums danced in their heads, the
Lancers scored ten times for a 10 - 5 win.
Art Clark and Steve Simpson got the
Lancers on the scoreboard early before
Lynn Murray came cruising into the pic-
ture and blasted a shot through the goalies
pads for a 3 - 0 lead.
Teeswater cut the lead by one before
Paul Maclntyre's long shot handcuffed the
goalie and the Lancers again led by 3. •
Teeswater again struck to • reduce• the
lead but Steve MacPherson and Pat Mur-
ray added a tally each to end the first
period 6 - 2 in favor of Lucknow.
Teeswater managed a couple goals in
the second but Pat Simpson hit the ice
kicking up his heels to gave the Lancers an
8 - 41ead with two fine goals from the point.
Grant Gilchrist added one more in the se-
cond and Steve MacPherson scored his se-
cond on the night in the third to end the
game 10 - 5.
The Kincardine Kings were in town last
Wednesday and the local Lancers held on
in a close game for a 5 - 2 win. Dave Gibson
started the scoring midway through the
first. and Scott Gibson gave the Lancers a
two goal lead just minites later.
The visiting Kings got one back late in
the period but Art Clark struck for what
proved to be the winner before the period
closed.
Larry MacPherson scored the onlm oal
of the second and Don Elliott roundt'd'out
the scoring in the third to gave the Lancers
the win.
This gives the team a record of 3 wins, 7
losses and one tie at the half -way point in
the season.
The Lucknow Lancers take to the ice
again on January 8 in Durham and will
play here at home on January 10.
Novice team unbeaten
Lucknow Novice
Lucknow travelled to Ripley for an after-
noon game on December 19 and it was a
winning one for the local lads.
The first period saw both teams play
good hockey and the scoreboard remained
dark until midway into the second when
Colin Becker folmd the mark for his team's
first goal unassisted.
Michael Puddy scored from Lee Dren-
nan early in the third and in less than two
minutes; it was Drennan from Becker to
give Lucknow a 3 - 0 lead.
A short 16 second later, Becker found the
target again unassisted to make it 4 - 0.
Defenceman Luke Sproul broke away on
the Ripley defence and went in with a pass
from Drennan to beat Ripley's goalie
David Farrel.
Graeme Hunter was in the net for
Lucknow and earned the shutout. The
game was a great team effort by the
Lucknow Novice club who are now spor-
ting new socks to match their orange team
jersey's.
The next day, December 20, the Novice
team was off to Wingham for a rematch
with the Wingham Nuggets and once again
came home winners.
Graeme Hunter handled the netminding
duties alone and brought the team up with
an 8 - 1 victory. .
Trevor Moffat opened the scoring late in
the first period to put Lucknow up by one,
but the lead didn't last long as Wingham's
Dean Walker answered back to tie the
game at the end of the first.
Moffat struck again early in the second
on a goal assisted by Michael Puddy, and
Ben Brophy -added another with the helper
to Glen Ferguson.
