The ]Kintai'l Save the.
School Committee has
been busy since 1994. Jim
Sinnett, one of the com-
mince members, says .that
the south wall was falling
in• and the two windows
hadalmost fallen out. It
was a major job for the
• committee to replace the
wall. At the same time two
new windowswere
installed. A lot of work remains
to be completed; six more
new windows andsone-

Why save the school?
For, the: former students it's
a matter of cherishing his-
tory, and according to the
committee . the school
actually belongs' to. the
community and shouldn't
be allowed to fall.down. A
',deed transferred the prop
erty front the school
trustees of Ashfield to the
Kintail Community Centre
in 1958. •From then:uritii:
1.965 it was used by the:
I
scQ hozse
Kintail Women`s Institute.
until they disbanded. After
that it housed, sone
antigue : businesses.
"Loosely defined, it
belongs to the people of
Ashfield,;" says. Sinnett.
It takes to ney' to.
accomplish this goal of
saving the school. While
the committee has the:
blessings of the local .,.
council, no funding is.
available - from • that
avenue. So the committee
has embarked: on, small
fund-raiSing'projects' rais-
ing $13,000 towards what. ,
they estimate will be a.•
$30,000 project:
.7 Dujrzng the slimmers'
they have hosted flea mar-
kets, barbecues and bake
sales. This is the first year
they held a Halloween,
party at the school: And
last weekend, the, room
took .ori a festive appear-
ance in keeping with the
season when. Santa, came
to the Kintail school to
greet 'youngsters and hand
out treat,bags: • ,
As a community; facrli-
ty, the eonnnittee says it
could be. used' for showers
or other family events.
They believe the school
would be a great field trip:
for classes. What better
way is there to experience
history than to sit in the
old school room? And for,
seniors, it would boa great
place to viSit and rend -
