„Megan Logtenberg bounces into the house after a day at
school, full of enervor.And news about the day's happenings,
She can 'hardly egInalti herself. For her 'parents, Kay and
Jerry Logtertherg, it's a miracle, One year ago,
Megan lay in a London hospital in 'critieal
eonclition•after sustaining a brain injury in a
Dec. 6,1997 single vehicle accident.
Christmas for the Logtenberg family
this year will be different, says Kay "It
will be nice to be horne. The basic
.thing is that we are together - it does-
n't ;natter where," she says as she
recalls list Christmas when she and
Jerry, Derek, Carrie and
Gerrit spent Christmas at the
hospital,

constant challenge for,Iv1egen•
who has had to learn howio do
everything over again. When
Megan returned home front the
hospital; the days Were filled
with visits from therapists and.

school in• March fer one hour a day

was back full tinie,
Now Megan receives therapy once
a Week to develop her, fine tumor skills
and oral, expression. "She's doing amaz-

well," says Kay. "It's been anastoending
reCovery. This stunniee.her doctor was really
impressed with her progress , • ,••

Me accident impacted the whole family in one
way or another. Because of the lengthy separa-
tions, Carrie still seeks reassurance -from her
mother that she will be becoming "right
back" if mom goes somewhere without her.

Kay can't say, enough
about the people in their Com-
munity who responded during
the crisis- ilk was overwhelm
mg." Kay said they already knew
they were part of a casing and sup -
:porting corninunity,, but yOu ruly
don't appreciate that until you expe-
' rienceit first hand. People reSea5nd-
• ed•in so many different ways.
Kay becomes emotional when
she talks about the prayers that were
said for Sslegan."People.in the communi-
ty and others from all over the world prayed
forMegan."
God answered these prayers.

county roads will get new
hot mix this year as part of
the department's long
range construction and
maintenance schedule.,
Engineer Brian Knox
said in the early 1990's,
the county spent $1.8 mil-,
lion a year on construe -
don. That,figure has been
' cut in half as maintenance
becomes a bigger issue.
—'We've met most of our
heavy construction needs,
and now we're going on
maintaining the hard sur-
faced road system," Knox
said.
