The Bruce County
Historical Society is look-
ing for original, creative
papers on aspects of histo-
ry significant,to Bruce
County, •
There will be three :cat-
egories to the competition:
16 years and under; 17 to
25, and an •open class.
Entrants are not required:
to be residents of the
County of Orme.'
Judging. will be based
on originality, 'creativity,
documentation, research
and presentation. A range
of 2,000 to 5,000 words
for the essays is suggest-
ed, with a maximum; of
10,000,

tions for topics, but the
.conunittee wishes to stress
that these are offered only
to help convey theegeneral
idea of the competition:
*Persons who have
advanced settlement and
fife in; Bruce County, or
persons from Bruce
County who have con-
tributed to. society in other
parts of the world, .
*Events and their effect on
people in Bruce County.
*Establishment of indus-
tries,
ndus-tries, institutions; organi-
zations.
Five world
*Military history, includ-
ing experiences of service
men and women in vari-
ous conflicts of this centu-
ry and last.
*Work and play:
Threshing,quilting bees,
sporting events, celebra-
tions.
.Entrants are encour-
aged to check in 'advance
with any committee mem-
her listed below to deter-
mine if the proposed topic
has beers' taken up before.
Committee members hope
to be able to give immedi-
ate response, offer encour-
agement and, if needed,
suggest sources of infor-
mation and methods of
historical research.

April 30, 1999
