Bruce County Council
observed two :historic
moments in its inaugural
session Tuesday.
It was the first meeting
of a dramatically smaller,
restructured council, and
the first time this century
that a member was elected
to a second term as war-
den.
Milt McIver of Lindsay
Township, Mayor of the
Northern. Bruce Peninsula,
defeated South Bruce
Mayor Ralph Kreutzwiser
of Culross Township for
the job of 1999Warden.
c
McIver previously held
the warden's post h 1994,
and is the first person
since the late 1880's towin
a second term.
McIver was also chair of
the 1991 county restruc-
turing study, which was.
.rejected by council at the
time but served as a tem-
plate for changes that were
eventually approved in
1997.
"It's a personal thing for
me to be Warden. I've put
a lot of time and effort in.
restructuring," McIver
said. "It's more or less a
dream come true. It is a
moments
big change. There is no
denying that," the new
Warden said about Bruce
County's restructuring.
"It is yet to be proven
how it will work, .but I've
had very encouraging dis-
cussions with council and
staff. People are excited
about the new structure in
spite of its big challenges."
Guidelines and policies
for the restructured coun-
cil will be monitored over
the coming year, McIver
said,
"I'm hoping the expecte-
awls (of restructuring):
will come to reality. If not,

explained' his conversation with the
Ministry of Nature Resources and
Donegan Haulage in regard to :the reha-
bilitation of this, site.
Council informed the groupthat no
application has been received as yet. It
was recommended that if an application
is received, then the group could make
arrangements to .meet 'with the council of
the new municipality.
