One of the most important teams involved with the
.Lucknow Sports Complex never goes on the see. The
Lucknow Auxiliary to Winter Sports has been in opera:»
lien since October.
The operation of the food booth over the:last 20 yew
has been successful due to the leadership of the exccu-
tiveand team captains, and the tremendous co-operation
and volunteer• work of parents and guardiansof hockey
players and:, figure skaters.
The profits; realized frons the food booth are used for
the benefit of all ;families involved in winter sports. The
largest donation was the $30,000 given to the building
of the Sports complex. The cost of the kitchen and the
equipment, the new fryerbeing the latest acquisition,
was paid for by the Auxiliary.. First aid kits, emergency
blankets, ramie patches, some banners; some sets of
team; sweaters, the Toronto Stair, dishes etc., in the
upstairs kitchen, and the clock in the lobby represent
some of the items given. .' .
Monetary assistance• has been given to teams,, new
referees,, skaters, and the Lucknow Minor Hockey
Association.
For the last three years, on behalf of the figure skat-
•
ing club and minor hockey, the year end profit, minus
start up money for the next season, has gone to the
• Recreation Board to, offset the cost of winter sports. fin
1996, $5000 was given. In 1997, $.8897.$2 wars donated,
In 1998, $10,000 was the figure. Many workers have
made these donations possible.
To recognize 20 suecessful years the Lucknow
Auxiliary is offering a few specials. During the week of
Dec. 6 to 13x coffee will be free. There will be a special
on treat bags for the kids. On Aee.' i 3, admission to pub-
lic skating wilt be paid for .by the Auxiliary. More sperm
rials will be announced that day.
.Many, factors contribute to a volunteer organization
doing well. For the Lucknow Auxiliary to Winter Sports,
the T1'.given by both women and men to operate the
booth is of utmost importance. Six teams, of about .26
workers each, keep the booth operating 430 to 40 hours a
week from Novernber to April. The 12 tenantcaptains, an
efficient treasurer, an organized booth convenor, a dedi-'
caters executive, and volunteer help to take cart of the
Pep , machine help to snake it happen. The people who.
buy from the booth are GiiATLY APPRECIATED..
