The Dodge Rodeo Series
comesto town this week-
end and promises to be a
thrill for spectators who
will be treated to two days
of events in a. sport that is
growing fast in popularity.
The Lucknow Sepoy
S"tampede,. running
Saturday and Sunday at
the Ab Murray farm east
of Lucknow,will feature
some seasoned competi-
tors as well as . some local
newcomers.
It wasalmost two years
ago that a group: of
Lucknow people decided'
the, village needed a big
event to draw a big crowd,
The committee zeroed in
on a stampede and was
fortunate to be chosen
from 30 rodeos as one of
10 in the, province to host
the. DodgeRodeo Series,
Teresa Hoist chairs the
committee that includes
members Ken Irwin,
Linda Stanley, Cord Hunt,
Nancy Hunter and Ab
Murray.
"The response for tick-
ets has been great," says
Hoist. "A lotof rodeos
don't have, that many pre -
sold: tickets, so we think
it's going very well. The
enquiries have • been .phe-,
notnenal.
Set up for the big event
started earlier this week.
Hoist said there will be a
major influx of rodeo peo-
ple on Friday night with
some even .coning in ear-
lier in the week.
The stampede commit-
tee has a large number .of
events planned, starting
with a saloon night at the
Mayfair on Friday night. ,
There's i, special. parade-:
ecial parade
on Saturday at noon start-
ing at Mary's Restaurant,
at the west end of town.
The cowboys and cow-
girls will be in the parade,
and Hoist says everyone is.
invited to participate the
parade. Pre-registratio)1 is.
not necessary - just show
up. The parade will make
itsway east, from Mary's
Restaurant, oh ' highway
86 to the stampede site.
Children in the parade
don't have to .walk all that
way. Hoist said they can
break off at Pegg
construction..
At 2 p.m, Saturday, Jite
first show gets underway.
It will immediately be fol-
lowed by the "slack." The
slack is just as important
as the ,main show, howev,
er,' when there are too
many .competitors, the
overflowgoes into the
slack. Six of eight events
'have slack on both days.
Ail are competing for
points. .
The local Lions Club is
offering a beef barbecue
on Saturday night to save.

music by the band Detour
and DJ Riek Passmore.
Sunday morning kicks

1996. Eric has a prospering, furniture making business, Cayo Custom
