Local teen, Laura
Sande, recently corfipeted
at a provincial music cent -
petition and said it was a
very "motivational" expe-
rience.
In May, Sande compet-
ed at the mid -Western
Ontario Rotary Music
Festival in Walkerton and
won herself the opportuni-
ty.tu play at the provincial
level.
"I didn't. even think
about qualifying for the
provincials," said Sande of
the Walkerton festival. She •
added that she decided to
enter the festival so she
could practice Ater perfor-
mances for her Grade 8
piano test. She came in.
first in every class she
played .in and was chosen
to represent the festival at
the provincials.
"I Wasn't expecting it at
all," she said.,
She also won two
scholarships at the festi-
val. The first was: $50 •
from the Kincardine
Rotary Club which she is
going to use torent, a
trumpet so she can prac-
tice .another instrument.
She also received $15:0.
from, the 'Walkerton Rotary
Club which she used for
the entry fee into the
provincial competition
which washeld at Wilfred
Laurier .University in
Waterloo.
At the competition,
Sande said she had to play
two pieces, one she chose
herself, and another was
chosen by an adjudicator.
The first she played was
Mysterious Summer's
Night by iuzmenko,
"I thought it was my
strongest piece but 1
blanked out," she said.
got through it though."
.The second piece she
played was I ,vention #8
. in F major by Bach.,
was really happy
with that performance,"
she said, adding that she
felt she had not played this
piece well in other compe-
titions. "I overcame my
'nerves."
Though she did not win
at: this competition, .she
said that it was a very
worthwhile experience..
It was just great," she
said. "I saw a lot of other
awesome' performances,
that were very motivation-
al. It was really worth it.
