Lue o one o many
newspaper stops

Well, My summer
newspaper circuit tour has
brought me back to
Lucknow for two weeks
while Pat is on a mach
needed vacation I'm sure,
My whole summer has.
been spent travelling,
around to the different
newspapers in the area.
filling in for editorial
staffs' vacations. My tour
has taken me from
Gaderich trk Clinton to..
Lucknow and certainly
has been an adventure,
I came to Lucknow last
week from Clinton where
I was filling infor the
paper's typesetterfor two
weeks, After that experi-
once, I have come to
believe. that the typesetter
has one of the most physi,
catty gruelling jobs, in the
newspaper buSiness.
I. typed "correspondence
after correspondence, obit-
uary after obituary, news,
release after news release. `
1 .had 'to quickly throw
away my hunting and
pecking typing style for
something a. tittle faster so
Local
t could keep up with the
pines and piles of informa-
tion that needed to be
typed before deadline. It
just never seemed to stop.
It took me a couple of
days to uncurl my hands
which had ceasedinto the,
typing; positionns.
I had worked in Contest
for a couple of years as 4
reporter, and I never real-
ized how much work the
typesetter did until 1 had
to fill in her shoes. They'
were definitely big shoes
to fill,
It has been a lot of fun
tbaugh travelling from
office to shite. I'have met
a tot of interesting people,
not only in the offices, but
in the communities ars,
,well: .
And I am once, again
amazed at the enormous.
amount of spirit this com-
munity has. Every time I.
come here there has
always= leen Kane project
the villagers have pulled
together on and have suc-
cessfully accomplished,
An example this time is
the Food Grains Bank. For
so many volunteers from
all the differentt churches
in the area to come togeth
er and to accomplish what
they have accomplished: in
such a short time is .amaz-
ing. It was nice to see their
efforts recognized last
week by being videotaped
for a television. program,
Hopefully the spirit .and
hard. work of this casnntu-
nity will be broadcast for
all to see.
Well, I always de enjoy
my time in Lucknow, but I
will be off to another
newspaper next "week, and
another after that - I..hope I
don't: forget where; all of
this travelling gettsconfus-
ing sometimes. And. once
all. the . vacations are over
and everyone settles back
to work, I think I'll take a.
small vacation myself -
but l think'Y'fl stay close to
home, I.'vc.done'enough
travelling for one surmmer.
