to turn a busy mill
For pioneer settlers eager
the fertile land to till,
An action sale of Village
lots, .the giving of a name
Borne by an Indian city
that very year in fame,
Stores opening up, post
office too, churches and
school• and shops,'
The country. bright with.
promise of bigger better
crops,
A gravel road that north-
ward ran, and -presently
the train
And next a weekly.•paper;
made Lucknow stature
gain.
Later the Gaines athletic
brought Continental fame.
To .view the test of
prowess, the folks by
thousands came.

And kilted pipers- march,
ing aro part of Lucknow
yet. •
Nowa looking back across
the years this. much we,
surely know
That birth and death ana.
time and change came in a
ceaseless flow.
And still the Nine Mile
River runs off to find the
sea.
White' pilgrims all together
• with onward look are we.
The gladness of the: sten-
shine, the fields fertility,
The beauty oftho stars and
flowers and precious gifts.
to free
Are ours. Let as remember
all; valiant hearts who gave
The courage that was
needed our freedom for to
save!
A blessed helpfulness, be
ours! Heirs to a storied
past'.
We've debts to pay, where
.ever our present lot is cast:
Living to make the future •
to owe to us a_debt
This is the way of pay.
