Editors note. Seems' there was a man who liven in
Lucknow, from .the latter half of the X$, Qos until his
death in 1913, who could be ferrite(' a "legend in his
time:" Hes name was Jock Adams, .and- the story goes
that Jock's name and Lucknow 'are practically , ynony-
•mous."
In. the .1058 centennial edition, we found an. article •
akoutJock' and his faithful horse, Old Barney, it was
written then that "oldtimersseldom reminisce .without ':
recallinghis name, and so often has his; name been spa -
ken that future' generations who did not`know him, 'have'
.' almost come to believe they .did.
We reprint here, that article:
e was born in Ayrshire, Scotland in.1823, and
came to Canada at the age of 30. He'settled an
Lucknow about five years after the Village was.
founded,, and lived here for half a century., He died in.
Walkerton at the County, Home in Septeniber,of 1913..
The, funeeal service was held. in ,the Lucknow
Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. J.Sr Duncan
vho paid tribute to him, "as a man who. had little of
what the world esteems andvalues, buthad a soul won--
:derfully pure. We honor the: man, not because of "what
he had, ::but because of what `he"had; but because of what
he was:''
He was buried in South. Kinloss Cemetery; and at the
suggestion of Rev. Duncan, a sttimple stone was later
erected by :his friends in •
